Well, Kirk is a worldwide martyr now. Israel is particularly upset about it. One has to wonder what a group that hired a pro-hitman was thinking. Who knows, maybe Putin wanted to trigger a civil war in the US, if not the Hamas supporters.

Well the problem now is if they don't catch the killer it will lead to lots of conspiracies which in turn will lead to idiots doing stupid things in retaliation.

I couldn't say why the guy was shot, I haven't paid that much attention to those doing US political circuits. So I literally know nothing of him and to be honest I don't really want to look into that deep. It's not because I don't have empathy and don't care, but because the fact is I do care. I care that if I find he's someone that was a terrible person from my POV, would it lead me to think he deserved it? I'd prefer just to think it's not something that should happen to a person (although there is a certain dictator it probably should happen to, but thats digression.)

In other words I don't want to be polarised by the vindictive political mantras that have often lead to the messes made by stupid people speaking (I'm not referring to Kirk, like I said I know nothing of the guy).

Seems to be spurring for a "nostalgic" revival of the late 1960s to 1970s "violent left" (Symbionese Liberation Army and other radical organizations). Whether actually the case or not.

The shooter could be an ambidextrous bipartisan, equal opportunist... too soon to say.

They appear to have recovered the rifle used in the assassination.

It's a .30-06 hunting rifle with scope. (Rifles like this are common in Utah.) It was found wrapped in a towel in a wooded area of the UVU campus, near the building whose roof the fatal shot was fired from.

And they have said publicly that the rifle was inscribed with political slogans. (Reportedly an ATF source told the Wall Street Journal that they were transgender and antifa slogans, but that's very unconfirmed at this point.) They are trying to get finger/palm prints.

The Utah Department of Public Safety (state police) were about to hold a press conference, but it was suddenly postponed due to "rapid developments" in the case.

Meanwhile the FBI is asking for public help in identifying this "person of interest" photographed by security cameras inside the building.

All the more suspicious, like it was planted to deliberately meet expectations and channel efforts in a particular direction. But I suppose a real headcase could be narcissistically daft enough to leave it there because they want to be caught, and to publicly express their associations beforehand.

"After his death, Dowd, 64, appeared on MSNBC Live With Katy Tur, where host Katy Tur asked him about “the environment in which a shooting like this happens,” per Variety.

“He’s been one of the most divisive, especially divisive younger figures in this, who is constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech or sort of aimed at certain groups," Dowd replied. "And I always go back to, hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions. And I think that is the environment we are in."

"You can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and not expect awful actions to take place," he continued. "And that’s the unfortunate environment we are in.”

He's not wrong.

CNN spun it as "cultural phrases," devoid of the obviously political motivation.

You piece of garbage.

Dowd also speculated about the circumstances of the shooting, saying: “We don’t know if this was a supporter shooting their gun off in celebration. So we have no idea about this.”

I'm guessing that the rifle was abandoned because the shooter couldn't very well carry it around in the aftermath of the shooting. He probably escaped by blending in with the thousands of students running around in all directions after the shooting occurred. He looks like a student (assuming the individual in the FBI photos is really him).
