EXCERPTS: Today I would like to report some news from Europe, again. This time I would like to start with communist Germany in this article.

It's saying that public utilities propose a residential area tax to force citizens to downsize. First I thought it's a joke, but actually it's not.

So this is a concept which is coming from a municipal utility company in Bonn, which is a German city. It's proposing a residential space tax -- not space like in outer space, but space as in living space.

The aim is to encourage residents to downsize their living space.

[...] Bonn. like all cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants must submit a municipal heating plan by mid-2026 -- a nationwide requirement to reduce CO2 emissions in buildings.

The goal is to become climate neutral by 2045. To achieve this in Bonn, the concept states that heating demand must be reduced by 28%. This is where the idea of examining a living space tax comes in.

[...] In the last years we were hearing a lot of news that Germans were forced to renovate the buildings so that a house doesn't need so much heating anymore. But this will not be enough, so now they are having this idea of forcing more people to live together in smaller spaces.

[...] It's interesting how they use the word "supported". Actually it's not supporting someone to reduce their living space, it's more like forcing someone to reduce their living space...

[...] Another city in Germany is now imposing a new water tax due to climate change...

My bet is that they know people will not downsize and this is just a power/money grab masquerading as a climate initiative.

It's going to continue until German voters stop voting for the establishment parties (SPD, CDU and Greens) that promote this kind of 'managed decline' stuff. Nothing is going to change until voters vote for change.

Whatever happened to programmable thermostats, zone valves, dampers, insulation, extra blanket, sweater, etc

What about living underground?

AI….
Quote: Yes, living underground can be warmer, particularly in winter, and cooler in summer compared to above-ground dwellings. The Earth's temperature below the surface is relatively stable due to its ability to absorb and store heat. This makes underground homes naturally cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, potentially reducing energy costs significantly

Along the same lines….
Quote: Yes, generally, it is warmer under a city compared to the surrounding rural areas, and even within the city itself, certain areas can be warmer than others. This phenomenon, known as the urban heat island (UHI) effect, is primarily caused by the dense urban environment, which absorbs and retains heat more efficiently than natural landscapes.

Lately it looks like Lilly’s been living out of a car….
Quote: No, living in a car is generally not warmer than living in a regular house, especially during winter. While a car heater can provide some warmth, it's not a substitute for a properly insulated and heated home.

Reports are starting to come in about widespread electric blackouts in Portugal, Spain and southern France. Stores, phones, traffic lights, the internet and trains are all down.
