My bird feeder has a roof to keep rain off the food and to deter pigeons. Most birds land on the roof before attempting to get at the food. They have to drop 18 inches, rotate 180 degrees and advance 4 inches to land on a ledge they have seen and know is there but can't see from their starting point. Two pigeons can do it, a few more land and seem to contemplate the problem before flying away. Flying isn't easy..even for a bird.

Gracie the giraffe found, safely returned to Cedar Hollow Ranch

Gracie, the escaped giraffe from Cedar Hollow Ranch, is back home. Gracie, the giraffe that escaped from Cedar Hollow Ranch near Leakey, was located Friday morning after a helicopter crew spotted her around 7:30 a.m.

Real County Sheriff Nathan Johnson said Gracie was difficult to find because of the rugged terrain and dense vegetation in the Hill Country. A trail camera southwest of the ranch helped narrow the search area before ranch manager Vick Jones and pilot Jeff Hill of Concho Aviation spotted her from the air.

Jones said Gracie escaped by climbing a steep, unfenced rock slab on the property. He said the ranch plans to install fencing along that section to prevent another escape.
