Airliner Crash in South Korea

This one happened today. It was a Jeju Air Boeing 737 with 179 aboard.

Video shows a puff of smoke or flame from the right engine before landing. Many have jumped to a bird-strike conclusion but I'm not convinced.

When the plane came in to land at Muan Airport outside Seoul, it was moving very fast, didn't have its flaps deployed or its landing gear extended. It performed a belly landing, then slid off the end of the runway into a barrier where it exploded and broke up.

Just from the looks of it, there probably weren't many survivors. (Edit: latest is that two passengers have been found alive (my guess is probably severely injured in the very rear), everyone else appears to be dead.)

Losing an engine to a bird strike wouldn't have prevented the landing gear or flaps from deploying.

Once again, the pilots might have been having trouble controlling the plane.

Apparently the two survivors were both flight attendants, in a little alcove space at the very rear of the aircraft. Everyone in front of that little space died. One of the two suffered a broken shoulder and some head injuries, but was able to walk. Unknown what injuries the other sustained, but both are said to be in remarkably good shape, considering...

The plane was approaching the airport when its pilots reported a bird strike and declared an emergency. I'm guessing that they lost both engines and were reduced to trying to glide the plane in, 'Miracle on the Hudson' style. Pilots on X speculate that's why the flaps and landing gear weren't lowered, because the pilots were trying to maintain airspeed and altitude so as to glide further.

But the plane was going too fast when it attempted a belly landing. Video shows the plane striking the runway and bouncing back into the air. It finally came down too far down the runway moving too fast, slid into a concrete barrier at the end of the runway, and that was it.
