Hollywood abandoning "The Message"? No way, it's just Marvel (Critical Drinker style)

Not that I could much care, but some adult household members yet obsess over their modern-day demigods (superheroes).

But I'm even skeptical about this. Since, Marvel Cinematic Universe is still owned by Disney, just as the latter is also the parent of Lucasfilm. Hard to believe there could be a contradictory wave transpiring within the Disney complex -- which, outside of maybe BBC entertainment, might be the most zealous proselytizer of political Brand_X_ in the world.

THE CRITICAL DRINKER
https://youtu.be/WxFlOd2zOR8

VIDEO EXCERPTS: We were on Thursday night chatting away about the box office success of "Deadpool and Wolverine", and whether it might inspire a change of creative direction at Marvel. When Chris Gore just casually dropped in this little bomb:

I do know people who work at Marvel -- they have cleaned house. They quietly, months ago, fired all the producers that could be labeled activist.

Unlike Lucasfilm, which is lost forever -- the latter is doubling down on the preaching nonsense all the more. That's why you will never get anything good come out of Lucasfilm and Star Wars.

[...] We tried. It didn't work. None of these side characters have the legacy of classic characters.

[...] If you look at box office results this year, I would say "male and pale" is the money. In short, it seems that Marvel is getting a bit tired of losing billions of dollars and turning their own fans against them by trying to inject "the message" into what used to be crowd-pleasing general purpose entertainment. And are quietly changing course.

And the first step down that path is to clean house behind the scenes, getting rid of the activists, and the idiots that have derailed so many projects since "Endgame". I mean it only took them like 5 years to recognize a problem that people like me have been pointing out since 2019.

I swore off superhero movies several years ago. It's the same old thing over and over again--alot of fist fights, alot of explosions, buildings collapsing, and the good guys beating the bad guys. I haven't really taken notice of any subliminal brainwashing with a progressive agenda. I guess I'm so used to it, like other movies that substitute male characters with female, I'm just not bothered by it anymore. OTOH, and aside from it being didactic and patronizing to audiences, its just not very original or creative to recycle films with nothing more than gender/ethnic/racial changes. The new all female Ghostbusters was a bomb. Oceans 8 as well I think. The new Hispanic Magnum PI with a gorgeous female Higgins lasted about a year and was canceled. I will say the female Equalizer starring Queen Latifa and a largely black cast has managed to survive several seasons. But the overall feedback for these types shows doesn't look good. Maybe Hollywood is finally getting the "message."

Given the only two or two and a half hours of a movie, there's no room for extended character developments and complex plot innovations. That's why the television "supe" shows are usually "better".[1] Ironically, Marvel's most popular cult figures can't benefit from that format, though, since the company is determined to only feature them in the films for money-making reasons.

[1] Things like "Legion", "Watchmen", "Daredevil", "The Boys", and "Titans" come to mind. And even "Agents of SHIELD" and maybe a few of those CW shows (DC comics) before they go downhill after the first season or two. But they're all crazy fantasy, of course, or the worst of Pseudoscience Fiction in terms of what's possible.

"Legion" was SO good! Totally original and surprising and wondrous. It was one of Noah Hawley's brainchilds, the other being "Fargo". Unfortunately I think Legion was too cerebral for mainstream TV viewers and only lasted 2 seasons. I was also really into that AMC series "Preacher" based on Garth Ennis' comic book series. Truly creative and shocking.

Another wicked black comedy, like "The Boys". A good thing we binged watched "Preacher" two or three years ago, as it served as a good prep for the unbounded insanity of the former. Didn't dawn on me till now how Dominic Cooper's character very loosely resembles Karl Urban's, though it's purely due to the hairstyles, I suppose.
