That should be the obvious approach. Lay off Biden and let disloyal Democrats flog him from now on, with respect to urging him to step down. Trump supporters aren't doing their candidate any favors by continuing to disparage JB (contributing to overkill, now that both sides are into it). If Biden makes it past the DNC, then return to the usual.

After latest flubs, Trump and several allies hope Biden stays in race

INTRO: As he watched President Biden’s news conference Thursday night, Donald Trump Jr., the former president’s son, gave Biden an unexpectedly gracious review.

“He probably did himself some favors,” Trump Jr. said on the Rumble live-video platform, before adding: “Probably did us some favors. He’s fine.”

Several Trump allies said they viewed Biden’s Thursday night performance as the best of both worlds: not bad enough to make him leave immediately, but not good enough to assuage fears.

Some of Trump’s advisers have plotted privately on whether they can do anything to help keep Biden in the race, believing he will be much easier to beat... (MORE - details)

It's not even a matter of what Trump allies want. It's that Democrats will have a harder time removing a cantankerous Joe as long as he's doing "okay." He'll never be great, or even just good, but as long as he's "alright," it's much harder for the Democrat party to congeal around a definite path forward. Whether or not Biden is easier to beat... even though he generally polls the best among alternatives... the in-fighting is fun to watch. Especially those poor saps who just realized how long they've been lied to.
