So far, no Black lawmakers on Capitol Hill have called on Biden to step aside as the Democratic nominee. Why it matters.

KEY POINTS: President Biden leaned on his deep ties to Black voters during a Sunday appearance in Philadelphia. So far, no Black lawmakers in Washington have publicly asked Biden to forgo his reelection bid. It's a show of support that is helping Biden as he works to reassure Democrats that he can win in the fall.

Black lawmakers are a key line of defense for Biden as he fights to save his campaign

INTRO: President Joe Biden is counting on an important political firewall to help him stave off Democratic defections and save his flagging re-election campaign: leaders of the Congressional Black Caucus.

On Monday, after a wave of congressional Democrats called for the president to step aside as the party’s nominee, Congressional Black Caucus Chair Steven Horsford, D-Nev., reaffirmed his support for Biden in the wake of his disastrous debate performance against former President Donald Trump last month. Horsford’s public support is significant given that he is facing a competitive race this fall.

President Joe Biden is the nominee and has been selected by millions of voters across the country, including voters here in Nevada,” Horsford said in a statement posted on social media, adding that Nevadans “care about a thriving and equitable economy, taking on big corporations to lower costs and protecting the hard fought freedoms, rights and opportunities we’ve earned.”

“They know President Biden and Vice President Harris are fighting for them. Like me, they don’t want to see Donald Trump back in the White House and are ready to work and VOTE to ensure that doesn’t happen,” Horsford continued. “We’re not going back, we’re moving forward.”

The CBC is set to hold a virtual meeting with Biden Monday night, according to multiple sources familiar with the plans.

Before the debate, the mainstream media either ignored these gaffes or buried them on the back-end of their medium. But now that they want him gone, they're baring them as extravagantly as the competition.

EDIT: Added article clarifies the circumstances...

Biden's bad week just got worse after he said he was the 'first Black woman to serve with a Black president'

INTRO: The 81-year-old president mixed up his words during an interview with Philadelphia's Wurd radio station when referring to his vice president, Kamala Harris, and former President Barack Obama.

"By the way, I'm proud to be, as I said, the first vice president, first Black woman, to serve with a Black president," he said.

Biden likely jumbled the sentence because he'd earlier spoken about being the first vice president to serve under a Black president.

Earlier in the interview, he also spoke about how he was the first president to have a Black woman as vice president and had appointed Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court.

It comes just days after Biden's debate with former US president Donald Trump, which was marked by verbal gaffes and confusing statements... (MORE - details)

To be fair, he obviously muddled up nominating Ketanji Brown to SCOTUS with several other points rattling around in his head.
Imagine trying to rely on him for communication or direction, as Commander in Chief, during an emergency.

Apparently he's hoping the "talented tenth" will recover some of the historic percentage of black votes he's poised to lose as a Democrat.
