Aside from the acoustic guitar, another factor contributing to me stumbling upon Kim Lachance's (then fledgling) channel almost two years ago is that she's into 90s alt-rock (and beyond), as well some older jazz.
I finally understand Lachance's singing style much better with respect to her own songs. It's a perfect fit for the latter (as exhibited below, and having chorus tracks blended in obviously strengthens the vocals).
Whereas with respect to the covers she does, you can't help but contrast her subdued singing to the ostentatiousness of the originals.
Not that the covers aren't enjoyable (especially for someone like me who favors acoustic music), but I'm often left wondering: Would someone else get this manner of vocalization if I posted a link to it? Now this original song provides a reference for what she's trying to achieve with respect to her own interpretative orientation directed at covers.
She lives in Canada (like Corey Heuvel), but this video was produced in Melbourne by Papermoon Projects. Not sure who the other member of the "Two Bad Bricks" duo is -- probably obvious somewhere or in some way, but it's zooming over my head.
