INTRO: More than 100 Extinction Rebellion activists from Wales are travelling to London this weekend for nine days of protest against the UK Government.
The demonstrations have been called over the limited support for households offered by Westminster during the cost of living crisis, and its decision to ramp up fossil fuel extraction just days after the UN's latest climate report warned that doing so would push the planet towards further dangerous warming.
Extinction Rebellion (XR) is planning daily protests from Saturday April 9 until Sunday April 17, and says it will be training members of the public in "nonviolent civil resistance tactics", with instructions on how to talk to police officers and how to block roads.
The group aims to stage the most roadblocks they have ever carried out, designing them to be "easy to find, easy to join, disruptive, and impossible to ignore."
David Campbell, a 45-year-old plumber from Cardiff taking part, said: "I’ve taken time out of work to stand up to the government because they are continuing to invest in fossil fuels during the Ukraine crisis, instead of accelerating the transition to a renewable led future that will protect life.

"They’re doing it in the name of democracy but they’ve no mandate from the people of the UK, and in the meantime, people can’t pay their fuel bills. "This is a political choice and it’s wrong.” (MORE - details)
