For the intellectually music-minded, if you believe: "Critics have stated that the band [Iron Maiden] elevated heavy metal to an art form, proving that academic and musical inspirations can coexist." Previous installment here: https://www.scivillage.com/thread-11461-...l#pid49892

Still

An instance of the original (2003) is here: https://youtu.be/O6Fw8DgvTQA

A young solo instrumental guitarist who might be at the dawn of a potential, future career: "My name is Erin and my little brother is Euan. [...] I was born on the  29th of April 2008 and Euan was born the 28th of June 2014. I  started to learn to play the guitar at the age of 9/10. I don't have any formal training. I just watched from Youtube and learned from it. My influencer in playing fingerstyle guitar is Josephine Alexandra." [The latter is featured in the next post.]

The Art of Blues Guitar...

TABS: https://justinjohnsonstore.com/

INTRO (Justin Johnson): Blues is one of the most versatile styles of music, and the feel, inflections, techniques, & tones that originated in early blues music have been applied to nearly every genre.  The styles of blues guitar that have developed through the years are nearly endless, but here's a little trip through some of the heavy hitters.

Many of these styles owe their name to the combination of genres that led to their creation, like Ragtime Blues, Gospel Blues, Blues Rock, Surf Blues, etc, while others are more of a sub-genre within the Blues idiom, named after the region they sprung from, like Delta Blues, Hill Country Blues, Piedmont Blues, Texas Blues, etc.

Many of the compositions themselves don't define the type of blues, instead it's the instrumentation or production techniques that create the overall feel of the genre.  For example, upright bass and slap echo on the guitar create the Rockabilly vibe, while the combination of early Rock & Roll, Country, and Folk instrumentation and tones create a distinct Americana vibe.

While this is, by no means, an exhaustive list, these are some of my favorite to play and record. If you want me to cover more in future videos and recordings, let me know!

NOTE: While some selections below (like the first) meet the solo boundaries set by this thread, others probably don't. Such exceptions are unavoidable in a collection.

List of works performed:

00:00 - Country Blues: "Deep River Blues"
03:08 - Delta Blues: "Whiskey Sippin' Music"
09:47 - Hill Country Blues: "Hill Country Stomp"
14:33 - Swamp Blues: "Whiskey Barrel Blues"
17:55 - Rockabilly Blues: "Bootleg Turn"
23:08 - Boogie Blues: "Baby, Please Don't Go"
27:28 - Gospel Blues: "Amazing Grace"
33:39 - Blues Rock: "Loose Change"
38:35 - Ragtime / Folk Blues "Make Me a Pallet on the Floor / Freight Train"
42:27 - Surf Blues: "Avalanche"
47:10 - Dark Blues: "Son of a Witch"
52:04 - Americana Blues: "When That Full Moon Rises"

Acoustic versus Electric

This is a duet that might arguably still count as solo (sort of) since each seems to be doing their own thing in sequential intervals rather than simultaneously.

Yes, for Nito there are occasional "deep percussive" thumps transpiring in the background (perhaps Marcin is supplying them) that are not explainable by absent forearm violence on his electric guitar (which the latter via its non-hollow nature could not produce anyway).

But face it -- drum machine pedals (etc) are just one of the many legal cheats intrinsically associated with the foot pedal effects of electric guitars. Futile to whine about those in the instance of a joint video like this (if they were applicable).

Plus, the sound of acoustic guitars is electronically modified these days, too. In particularly heavy doses with respect to the experimental, both-hands tapping, modern fingerstyle playing that Marcin practices. He's surely got as many devices connected in a maze as Alexandr Misko. But at least he is physically whacking the soundboard of his guitar to produce the drum-like and other percussive sounds. Albeit, it might not be heard so much on an ordinary guitar without special pick-ups and amplification (at this point traditional flamenco guitarists chime in to object strenuously).

I didn't know that look-alike Michael Chiklis was a musician. Maybe he and Elliot could be a chrome-dome duo in the next album, as I expect Sean Sydnor (bass) and Chris Hudson (drums) were just part of a temporary trio for this one. Chiklas would surely supply stagy character, though maybe I'm confusing that prediction with some of his nastier or morally ambiguous acting roles.

"Chiklis is also an accomplished musician, specializing in drums and vocals, but also playing guitar and bass. He is a member of several performing bands in the Boston area..."
