EXCERPTS: A judge has ordered UC-Berkeley to freeze its enrollment beginning in the academic year 2022-2023, citing environmental concerns. UC-Berkeley hopes to have the order lifted within the year so the school can proceed with enrollment increases.

A local California judge issued an order which freezes enrollment at the University of California, Berkeley, because future enrollment increases could have an "adverse" impact on the "physical environment."

[...] The judge stated in the order that once UC-Berkeley redoes their supplemental environmental impact report for a new building on campus and demonstrates "full compliance" with the order, the decision may be reversed. Under the California Environmental Quality Act, state and local government entities are required to submit a report studying the environmental impact of their project.

[...] The original lawsuit was filed by Save Berkeley's Neighborhoods, who describe themselves as a group aimed at protecting "Berkeley’s unique quality of life."

Cynical Sindee: In an alternative interpretation, instead of it being the Green or whatever sentiments of the local residents that are being aroused here against mundane educatees...

It might be the excessive number of white wokesters outputted by the local Social Justice Factory (university) that is disrupting the quality of life in the city. Via causing taxes to be raised for their adult daycare and introducing obnoxious rules to accommodate their various personal sensibilities and Leftangelical crusades. Or even clogging up street travel with demonstrations. Students who are only temporary denizens, that will be leaving the hellhole they created and defecated all over once they graduate or drop-out.

And thereby, "Save Berkeley's Neighborhoods" is just taking advantage of CEQA to limit the campus infestation's numbers and detrimental proclivities.

But given that it's California -- where every square meter is fluctuating with a labyrinth of bureaucracy, turgid protocols and quotas, levies/fees, expensive rent & cost of living, paternalistic condescension mated with exploitive do-gooderism, pretentious moral posturing, and just general bughouse antics...

It's probably more on target to say that any two population groups going at each other's throats in that dystopia utopia deserve each other.
