Royal Society facing calls to expel Elon Musk amid concerns about conduct (network)

Cynic's Corner (sarcasm, parody): Musk was only elected as a member of RS in 2018. And like many organizations it has probably shifted since to selecting new people based on identity rather than individual experience, skills, and truly significant accomplishments. On the road to being just another superfluous gasbag entity wailing about social oppression conspiracies contrived by self-loathing and West-hating literary intellectuals who were largely white, hetero, and cisgender themselves. We even have it on authority from outraged Palestinians that Jews are actually white or Euro-cultural colonizers, so this also retrospectively adjusts the identity of the many past Jewish scholars in the humanities.

EXCERPTS: The Royal Society is facing calls to expel Elon Musk from its fellowship over concerns about the tech billionaire’s conduct.

[...] According to one fellow, the concerns have come as a result of Musk’s increasingly incendiary comments, including his response to the recent riots in the UK, with fears he could bring the institution into disrepute.

[...] Musk’s tweets regarding the unrest have drawn widespread condemnation: in August, Downing Street criticised comments by the billionaire saying “civil war is inevitable” posted below a video of violent riots in Liverpool.

Musk also shared – and later deleted – a fake news report claiming Keir Starmer was considering sending far-right rioters to “emergency detainment camps” in the Falklands, and has promoted the conspiracy theory that police in the UK are treating white far-right “protesters” more harshly than minority groups.

However, there are concerns that any move to eject Musk would have to be based not on his views, but on his ability to amplify his beliefs, and concerns that his influence could cause serious and intentional harm.

The Royal Society’s code of conduct and disciplinary regulations state: “Fellowship and Foreign Membership of the Society is a privilege predicated on adherence to particular standards of conduct.”

Among other points, the document says: “When speaking or publicising statements in a personal capacity, Fellows and Foreign Members must still strive to uphold the reputation of the Society and those who work in it, and be mindful that what is said or stated in a personal capacity could still impact the Society.” (MORE - missing details)

Is that only a conspiracy theory in the UK? Here, it's a well-documented fact. No conspiracy necessary. Just leftists controlled blue states/cities being biased pricks.

"...is facing calls... according to one fellow..." according to the Guardian.

Does this desire to expel Elon represent the majority of Royal Society members, or just a small left-activist minority? (And the Guardian itself of course...) In other words, is this real journalism or just shit-stirring?

The Guardian after all used to be a Marxist newspaper and remains hard-left to this day. It was pro-Viet Cong during the Vietnam war and uncritically cheered on every Marxist rebellion anywhere in the world. Then it moved from Manchester to London and somehow (magic!) became established as one of Britain's "quality" newspapers. (Probably because it was widely read in the Labour party.)

So if Elon criticizes Keir Starmer, then he has to go...

Does Elon really have any need for membership in the Royal Society? Typically, scientists with little public profile are voted into the Royal Society, which raises their prestige tremendously, putting them in a pantheon that includes Newton and Darwin (and Elon Musk). But Elon is already more famous, exciting and inspiring than the Royal Society itself.

Currently, he's probably their most prominent member. They need him more than he needs them.

Wake me when the Royal Society lands on Mars.
