"A California man confessed to killing his two young children, allegedly telling an FBI investigator he thought they were "going to grow into monsters so he had to kill them," according to a criminal complaint filed Wednesday.

Matthew Taylor Coleman, a 40-year-old Santa Barbara surfing school instructor, has been charged with foreign murder of US nationals after allegedly taking his 2-year-old son and 10-month-old daughter into Mexico and killing them, according to an affidavit filed as part of a federal criminal complaint and a statement from the US Attorney's Office for the Central District of California.

Stopped for questioning at the US-Mexico border, Coleman allegedly told investigators he shot the children with a spear fishing gun, then hid their bodies, the affidavit said.

Coleman spoke to authorities about being "enlightened by QAnon and Illuminati conspiracy theories," including that he had visions that his wife "possessed serpent DNA and had passed it onto his children," according to the affidavit.

Coleman was detained at the border and transported to a local jail by authorities.

CNN has reached out to Coleman's lawyer but has not received a response. He was scheduled for an initial court appearance Wednesday in US District Court in Los Angeles, the US Attorney's Office said.

Police in Santa Barbara were initially alerted on Saturday by Coleman's wife, who said he had taken the children, hadn't told her their destination and wouldn't respond to text messages, according to the affidavit. She told police she did not feel the lives of the children were in danger and asked for police to speak with Coleman, who did not respond to police calls.

The next day, according to the affidavit, Coleman's wife and a police officer used the 'Find My Phone' application on her laptop to determine that Coleman's phone had been last tracked in Rosarito, Mexico, just south of Tijuana in Baja California along the US-Mexico border.

Mexican law enforcement was notified about the missing children and, according to the affidavit, police in Rosarito confirmed that two children matching the description of Coleman's were found dead that morning.

During his interview with the FBI, Coleman said he had killed his children in Rosarito, the affidavit said.
He told authorities "he believed his children were going to grow into monsters so he had to kill them," the affidavit said, speaking about QAnon conspiracy theories and the belief that his wife passed along "serpent DNA."

Coleman said of the killings that "he knew it was wrong, but it was the only course of action that would save the world," according to the affidavit.

QAnon is a sprawling far-right conspiracy theory that promotes the absurd and false claim that former President Donald Trump has been locked in a battle against a shadowy cabal of Satan-worshipping pedophiles made up of prominent Democratic politicians and liberal celebrities. The FBI has previously warned of the potential danger posed by followers of the conspiracy theory movement.

The Illuminati is a conspiracy theory that a secret society controls the world, while "serpent DNA" is possibly a reference to a long-running theory that the world is secretly run by a cabal of reptilian humanoids."

And? It's not like it's your average middle-America Republican spouting conspiracy theories.
It's the fringe former-left/independent that liked Trump.
And again, it takes no conspiracy to see leftists, wanting to teach elementary school children about masturbation and transgenders, as pedophiles. Don't like it? Quit being creepy pervs.

Blonde and white stereotype at the beach comes to mind. Obviously privileged, yet receiving insufficient or no mental health care?

MHSOAC: More than 2 million children, adults, and seniors are affected by potentially disabling mental illnesses every year in California. Thirty years ago, the State of California cut back on its services in state hospitals for people with severe mental illnesses, without providing adequate funding for mental health services in the community. Many people became homeless.

What are they wasting all those high taxes on these days, anyway? Sheesh...

^ Newsom is trying to blame Reagan's governorship for his current homelessness problem, even though it hasn't been such a huge problem until relatively recently. But then, Democrats have such short memories and poor educational standards.

I don't think this has as much to do with QAnon as it has to do with severe mental illness/psychosis. He could say whatever he wants, the Illuminati ''made'' me do it, but sounds like this might be his attempt at an insanity plea (although he confessed that he ''knew it was wrong'')

I didn't think people were still buying into QAnon. Probably a lot more to the story will come out.

tbh, it sounds more like an attempt to manipulate an insanity plea rather than face the full justice of a double infancide crime. If he truly had such rationality about things there would be such things as inane scrawlings, weird conversations with "friends" or random people etc

True conspiracy nuts (From their perspective) wouldn't explain or admit to anything when questioned by reptilian collaberators working for the government or law enforcement.

Yes, agree - I can't see an attorney being able to sell the insanity plea, but we'll see. Do you think that the QAnon organizers should be arrested, or held partially responsible?

If they were encouraging crimes like this, similar to the ME Jihadist groups inciting scattered, isolated terror cells. Frankly, I've never visited anything to do with QAnon -- I have no idea what they carry on other than the caricatures dispensed by the pop-market.

So we may be seeing a trend of murderers appealing to be the most popular conspiracies to enhance their appearance of being mad. Even participating in these cabalistic romps weeks or months beforehand to ensure the semblance of a background in them, once their homicidal plan is formulated. The publicity itself may be a stimulus, since media will swarm all over crime associated with QAnon.
