So those quasi-successful attempts by governments (like Germany), to undermine their regional economies with green energy replacement, are just regarded by the masses as superficial virtue signaling? The latter actually crave more fetish-level punishment? (Closings, job losses, price increases, etc.)

Europeans are increasingly worried about climate change

INTRO: Over the past decade, environmental concern among Europeans grew, despite migration, financial crises and the COVID‑19 pandemic – rising to become the third most important issue after health and the economy. Over the same period, climate change moved from being one of many problems to the most important environmental issue in Europe.

These and other insights into European environmental attitudes are analysed in detail in a new monograph, Green European Revisited, published by Palgrave Macmillan Cham. This is the second volume by the same team, again focusing on how Europeans think about environmental issues over time.

“There is a myth, which I hear time and time again, that Europe is a so-called green continent,” Professor Audronė Telešienė, a researcher at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), Lithuania, the chief editor of the book, says, “whereas in reality, Europe has placed exceptionally heavy pressures on the natural environment, greater in some respects than those generated by several other continents combined. As the first continent to industrialise, it has experienced extensive and long-term ecosystem degradation.”

However, she emphasises that Europeans demonstrate leadership in implementing green policies that can help the world to deal with the climate crisis and its impacts. Nordic countries are most concerned... (MORE - details)

Personally I think the full effects of anthropogenic climate change have shifted from avoidable to inevitable .. thanks largely to Trump. Any policy adopted by a single country will have a negligible effect on CO2. Actual peak CO2 is closely linked to the final exhaustion of fossil carbon deposits ,, burn faster and it happens sooner .. but it still happens.. you're just choosing when.

It isn't a 'blame' game .. Trump is the one who has brought home to the West "This is the way we're going to play it" .. could have gone either way.

Anyone would think time was on our side or something.

On the bright side we have our glorious Orange Emperor Penguin to usher in the  new post Climate age.

China was already ignoring any climate goals. Blaming it on someone else just reeks of partisan hackery.

Peak CO2 'sooner' would be Trump's preferred option whatever China were doing. 'People' would be losing (wasting) money if any fossil fuel were left in the ground instead of being extracted and burned as demand dictates.

You probably believe that's the motive. 9_9

Donald Trump promotes fossil fuels to drive down energy costs, achieve "energy dominance," and support domestic industries like manufacturing and AI data centers. His administration views robust oil, gas, and coal production as central to national security, job creation, and countering China's supply-chain dominance in the renewable energy sector.

^^ Whatever. Pick your own reason(s). It adds up to no 'net zero' while there are fossil fuels still in the ground.
