I want to see ball lightning, actually. Too bad it rarely happens. If it’s being likened to an alien space craft, even a small one, that sounds pretty spectacular.

We’re in the rainy season here in the South…

Be amazed! Smile

Those “balls” could be mistaken for itty bitty UFO’s. lol

Interesting that it leaves behind a sulfur scent. It’d be cool to witness it in person.

Ball lightning occurs mainly when there is a lightning strike. It's like plasma gas left over from the lightning and ignited by the strike. Like bubbles when you throw something into the water. They only last at most 10 seconds.

So, a coworker of mine was fired today. Not surprising but sad, just the same. I love working from home but, not sure it’s for everyone - some people thrive better in office environments, and that might have been the case here. I wonder why Friday seems to be the designated day for firings.

In other news, it’s almost 100 degrees here, today! Went out for a nature trail walk and the heat was smothering. Confused

Happy belated summer solstice!

Also known as the ''longest day of the year,'' with the longest day length being 24 hours in the northern part of Alaska. {insert shocked emoji} We need a shocked face emoji.

1 thing i would guess would be the person doing the firing wants to lie to themself that they are giving the person the weekend off.

Well a number of practical reasons is to get the working week out of the way (Lowering their work intake so they aren't starting any new jobs/projects) and have them leave where there is limited disruption to other staff. (Afterall some might be heading home for a weekend and not realise that others won't be returning etc)

There is also the fact that it's before the last week of the month, depending on the amount of serverence pay, they might also be aiming at having the accounts land in this month rather than spread across an extra month.

All good reasons, but many are working remote/from home now, me and my team included, so I wonder if this customary day of firing will change. Time will tell. To me, employees working from home (if it’s feasible and the role allows it) mitigates the risk to companies being exposed to possible drama in the workplace, negatively affecting other employees, when it comes to situations like this.

I think forums are dying. Sad I’m not a fan of Reddit - just don’t like the aesthetic of how the threads appear. That forum seems to be thriving, though.

Remembered a running forum from five years ago and went to check in on it recently for nostalgia’s sake, and it’s gone.

Nice to see SF and sci-village still around…forum administrating isn’t for the faint of heart.

ive seen this first hand.

a previous employee walking around the office which has upset other employees starting an argument
management asked her to wait outside the building if she was going to meet up with someone for lunch.

i was told off for not telling a disabled employee who lived close by to stop working over time.
but it was not my role to police work hours.
my job was more a receptionist administrator and all employees had right of access.
