ive seen this first hand.

a previous employee walking around the office which has upset other employees starting an argument
management asked her to wait outside the building if she was going to meet up with someone for lunch.

i was told off for not telling a disabled employee who lived close by to stop working over time.
but it was not my role to police work hours.
my job was more a receptionist administrator and all employees had right of access.

Yea, I think working from home or even a hybrid situation is the way to go these days, if a company can manage it. There are roles however, that require more office presence.

It’s also not necessary to work 40+ hours per week when productivity is what should be measured, not just hours, you know?

very role dependent
some roles require access to service 24/7 so hours become needed rather than the need for productivity
but KPI's still apply.

some of the best operators i have known are very busy people
they have a lot of interests & keep themselves busy
i would feel confident in guessing they produce 50% more better results than an average employee.

i wonder if long term employees are now not viewed the same by a lot of companys who dont know what to expect in the next financial year.

Geez... this late, that especially would be a bummer. It's literally vanished around here.

Take care of yourself, RU. If you start feeling some serious stuff, beat down the doors of that health care system to get a response.

If it's the light kind, I guess the scourge is more along the line of being quarantined (which might be a big deal and undertaking wherever you're at.)

Best wishes that it turns out to be a fizzle all the way around, somehow.

Thanks
i live with elderly parents who have both got it who i would have caught it off.
so i am more concerned about them. mum has a heart condition but a strong immune system
my step father is suffering fatigue & mum has mild cold symptoms and a liuttle fatigue
both in their 70s
so im the help & luckily im feeling ok
we live fairly close to a supermarket that delivers too so thats helpful.
we are all vaccinated with 2 doses of pfizer
im currently feeling no specific effects other than slightly strange tastes.

we are experiencing a surge here with over 10,000 new infections per day with 50% being the new BA5 variant which is likely to spread more.
BA5 is less serious than Delta supposedly.
thanks for your kind words of advice.
sister & brother in law both doctors brother is a paramedic
so we have advice on hand should we need any.

self isolation for 7 days i think is the official requirement.
i have registered myself for online shopping and can receive things the following day if i order in the morning which is good.
we have lots of food in the house although i personally have a special diet because of allergys so i manage and eat my own food.

Even taking into account the less virulent strain, should hopefully make a difference.

I also got Pfizer twice way back in February 2020, but no boosters since. Hubby's the one who seems to have a mitigated immune system -- made sure he got the boosters. (Though it was Moderna he received, a month or so after me -- got mine early at a tribal clinic.)

Good deal. Quarantines may be easier to endure in the era of the internet and speedy delivery services.

I think (not for the first time) I have some sort of social skills deficit syndrome. CC filled in nicely. Look after yourself.

i think social skills come and go depending on emotional and mental states
sometimes a subtle comment from someone can be a significant thing for them but is missed by many people.

i think of myself if your use to observing a lot, you make bigger note of the times you realise you missed something that maybe a lot of other people would miss completely.

keeping in mind social skills are different depending on the environment & the people present.
things can seem more clearly defined when everything is very stereo typed

picture an office work situation where the subtle nuances of social etiquette are expected to be rail-roaded over to seek to carry on with working
yet if you were in a highly social private setting it would be a screaming message about something with expected reciprocal actions.

i have had a few experiences with downs syndrome and autistic people who have a different processing of social dynamics
i would suggest that is more what i would define as a deficit as opposed to an emotional state taking precedence or loss of focus.
focus comes and goes
deficits remain constant

In my experience the very worst of places to work - beneath lies the constant ebb and flow that  X (maybe yourself) is going to be fired for some reason unknown, unstated and undefensible.
My advice to anyone with even a trace of paranoia in their character would be - don't work in an office or for a large company in any capacity;.
