Humans face 'mass extinction' if action isn't taken in the next 20 years

EXCERPT: The human race is facing the possibility of mass extinction is measures are not taken in the next 20 years, scientists have warned. Humans and wildlife species face a "dismal" future unless action is taken to arrest "powerful assaults on biodiversity". Human overpopulation and over-consumption by the wealthiest in society are driving factors behind the destruction of species on planet Earth , which is having a negative impact on ecosystems, according to researchers.

The grim warning, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences journal, states that the hidden rate of species population decreases mean "Earth's sixth mass extinction episode has proceeded further than most assume"....

For the subject, a planet that has had 5 mass extinctions isn't exactly the understanding of reality given in the bible.  It was not a subject when I went to school.  I knew dinosaurs had died but thought everything was about a god making a perfect planet for us.  Interesting how our brains rationalize everything to fit the belief in a loving god.   We have mass education and mass media but we are not using it effectively to make a difference, and we know that is not going to happen during the Trump administration.   Unfortunately, the science of our planet is not as easy to understand as the bible.

Take it for granted that pretty much all sites leave cookies, Carol. In some or many cases they're necessary just to access them. You can disable the ability to receive cookies in the Options menu of your web browser. Also, in Firefox you can set all information in the browser to be cleared or deleted after it's closed. Not so much with Chrome or that type of browser, though. (Google Chrome literally uses your browsing data / history for whatever commercial or corporate purposes).

I pass the buck on to that Sesame Street expatriate slacking on the job again when the "I may need a Walmart electric scooter to shop" threatened masses of America need him the most. "Me want cookie! Me eat cookie! Om nom nom nom!"

Oh, that is why it was easier to delete cookies.  I am pre-diabetic and need to avoid cookies.  I think I will go back to Firefox.

When I asked my doctor if I have Alzheimer's disease he laughed and told me it is just my personality to be ditzy.  It is unnerving when I miss the completely obvious, things have changed because I went from FireFox to Google.   But I made that change long ago and paying attention to all the computer stuff is not interesting to me.  I want it all to work as easily as a toaster, turn it on and it works.  Turn it off and it stops working.

But on topic, is there something a person might do to increase the chances of survival?   I assume securing a good water supply is essential.  I also assume a compost pile will make useful soil no matter what ground a person has?  I think the best soil would be made by mixing all nature waste and slowly burning it, bio-char.  A supply of medicine would be nice but it has to be refrigerated and that could be a problem, and it is a short shelve life.  I like thinking about this stuff a whole more than I like all the computer issues.

A major problem with relying on a garden is the difficulty of protecting it from plunder. If it's one belonging to several members of a community, then they could defend it from stray individuals (but probably not organized raiders over the long haul). Stored supplies would have to be well-hidden as well. Ted Koppel, of course, advocated stocking six months of freeze-dried food for enduring the era when the power-grid is attacked. But he was basing that time-frame on there still being an establishment around with the means to restore the old days. Another challenge is whether or not one could remain in one place for even few months (i.e., if not having a completely isolated residence far from towns, cities, etc). Then the portable survival packs and gear come into play.

when looking at a survival process it appears quite apparent that many countries are over populated and quite seriousely poorly managed.
food production has been leveraged to increase the unit profit per item instead of increasing food supply to people.
thus food in general is unable to be supplied to the population by any single national government.
for those brainwashed bi-partisan thinkers this also includes market supply as private markets are only interested in profit per unit not customer supply continuity.
if the profits are not high enough the supply is stopped and the people are deliberately starved by the company/private market.
note no credit system is used to ensure public supply, unlike housing & motor vehicles & private debt(bizar really unles you factor the controllers to by psychopaths & narcissists or complete idiots or simply overtly corrupt)

ironically... the cry for decentralisation by privateers is something they have not championed for their own systems.
only the regulatory and government managed supply chains so they can leverage profit from the lack of supply or lack of competition.

quite a critical failure in the entire system really.
however, on the whole most people consider life as cheap and thus do not support the process of maintaining a system that ensures supply.
such is the nature of the human animal as it is currently.

all these "free-Trade-Agreements" that are being bandied about like some new economic tool to creating new jobs and increasing civilian prosperity is quite the con.
funny when you look at the comments of opposition toward carbon tax systems.
ironic really.

If you weren't such a partisan sheep (bi-partisan means both side working together), you'd know that you can profit equally well either way...and only if the demand is commensurate. An equal profit margin can be made on either at low volume higher price or a high volume lower price. Demand can lead to shortages that naturally raise the price, as a commodity becomes more scarce, but industries don't generally seek to operate with a supply risk.
