UK meteor: 'huge flash' as fireball lights up skies
https://www.theguardian.com/science/2021...s-up-skies

EXCERPTS: A large meteor blazed across UK skies on Sunday night, delighting those lucky enough to spot it. The meteor was spotted shortly before 10pm and was visible for around seven seconds. It was captured on doorbell and security cameras in Manchester, Cardiff, Honiton, Bath, Midsomer Norton and Milton Keynes.

The UK meteor network, a group of amateur astronomers that has been using cameras to record meteor sightings across the UK since 2012, said the meteor was a fireball, and wrote on Twitter, “From the two videos we saw it was a slow moving meteor with clearly visible fragmentation.”

The UK meteor network group said more than 120 people had reported seeing Sunday night’s meteor... (MORE - details)

Over 20 million get first dose of Covid vaccine in UK

INTRO: Britain announced Sunday that it has given more than 20 million people at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, with the rapid rollout providing hope in a country with Europe's highest death toll. Prime Minister Boris Johnson called it "a huge national achievement" while praising National Health Service staff and others involved for "tireless work".

Health Secretary Matt Hancock made the announcement in a video message on Twitter, saying: "I'm absolutely delighted that over 20 million people have now been vaccinated."

A total of 20,089,551 people have received a first dose, according to government figures released Sunday. But dampening the good news was the detection of a coronavirus strain that emerged in Brazil, which is feared to be more contagious and more resistant to vaccines.

In mid-February, the UK met a government target of 15 million of the most vulnerable people receiving first doses. The government says it plans to offer a first jab to the whole adult population by the end of July. Only Israel and the United Arab Emirates have vaccinated more people per head of population... Yesterday I was watching the (scrubbed) attempt to launch another batch of Starlinks from Cape Canaveral. And a highly visible meteor blazed across the sky that everyone exclaimed about. This would have been right about the time of the UK meteor, adjusting for time zones. So was it the same one? (Thousands of miles apart?) Or was there a meteor swarm with multiple meteors around the same time? (Or maybe those damn Chinese boosters again. One reentered over Australia the other day in a big fireball.)

What happens during the blazing re-entry of man made equipment? Does all of it vaporize or do hot molten blobs of metal fall from the sky? Is there a danger to aviation and people on the ground? Has not all returning space debris been tracked with warnings issued to avoid particular areas? My guess is that China or any country for that matter isn't required to give a warning for this occurrence?
