Drawbridges into Chicago were raised Monday night and freeway exits closed as downtown was locked down.

Precautions were being taken to avoid a second night of chaos, following riots and looting in the early hours.

SWAT teams were seen patrolling the streets of the Illinois city on Monday afternoon.

Protests and looting erupted when a false rumor spread that police had shot and killed a child on Sunday.

Police in fact had shot and injured a 20-year-old man, who ran from them, turning to fire his gun at officer.

Latrell Allen has been charged with attempted murder after the shooting on Sunday which sparked the riots.

Chicago's Magnificent Mile was hit by looters after hundreds of demonstrators clashed with police.

People then started organizing on Twitter and Facebook to loot downtown in a caravan of vehicles.

The violence coincided with the sixth anniversary of Michael Brown's death in Ferguson, Missouri.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said the looting had nothing to do with peaceful protest over police brutality.

Yeah, no more bs about "largely peaceful protests" being co-opted by completely unrelated looters. BLM has now owned the looting. But every sensible person already knew that, with the Portland "protests" going on 74 days now, without abating after local authorities resumed exterior protection of federal buildings from federal agents.

That anyone would believe that recent looting has nothing to do with lenience to previous looting is beyond naive. But that seems to be par for Democrats nowadays,.

Insurance companies will either up the ante or refuse to cover. Stores will close or move farther away. Perhaps online will be the answer but regardless, the cost of doing business will go up and prices along with it. They’ll have to steal from each other.

I’m sure the looters are tired. There are those who work very hard doing nothing positive or constructive than if they had a regular job. Also do a wonderful job at making themselves attractive to an employer. Does professional looter look good on a resume or what? The energy is there, they just have to channel it correctly.

I grew up in a poor family in a poor neighbourhood. I was about 10 when I first realized it, our neighbour’s kids were eating lard sandwiches with sugar sprinkled on them which was better than my fare. Never tasted pizza until I was 18 and on my own, maybe that’s a good thing, and so on. BUT I NEVER STOLE FROM ANYONE. I worked my ass off to get what I have now. Ain’t the Rockefeller’s but it’s comfortable.
