The four different meanings of 'nothing' to a scientist

Quote:if the laws of physics are such that we can only create matter and antimatter in equal amounts, how did we wind up with a Universe where every structure we see is made of matter and not antimatter?

Casually speaking....

Matter/anti-matter collisions would result in what? Nothing? An absolute cancellation of one another? Is there any residue?

So.....Out of nothing, something is created and scattered about that when recombined equals nothing? I'm going to stick with the thought that the observable universe may be what nothing looks like.

Distances are so vast and galaxies so large that when they collide with one another nowadays, star on star contact not likely. In the early going when matter was created, I think there might have been a blast or two. I wouldn't doubt that entire galaxies are made of anti-matter.

I apologise for the duplicates due to my ignorance and stupidity.
I would be more than happy if you could remove them please.
Thank you.

Don't worry about it -- there doesn't seem to be a strict etiquette to posting form in here, especially for those new to these BB-code type boards or stuck with a mobile device (I'm not sure the forum manifests and delivers well on those). Remember you can always use the "Quick Reply" at the bottom of a thread to bypass the quoting and code mess, and use your own means to indicate what you're specifically replying to.

For 24 hours you can go back and edit a post (or IOW as long as the Edit button is available). For an initial 5-minute period you can even delete a post or a thread you start.

Also, there's a trial period where you have to post a certain number of times before you can make your own topics. (Which feels strange in this case since you joined back in 2018 rather than recently.)

This place has an owner (Stryder) but no moderator in a full sense. So it's up to the individual members to behave themselves conduct-wise or otherwise Scivillage tumbles into a scrap heap. There's a button or link you can click for reporting spam -- and perhaps illegal activities, extremely offensive stuff, and potentially anyone who joined purely to exclusively promote a website, book, etc without any intent to participate in a general manner.

Thank you again for your comments. My apologies for having been away for a long time. It was purely an unintentional oversight. Changes in my life pulled me in different directions. Anyway, I am pleased to have rediscovered you.

Does anyone else use the abbreviation Cat please? I.E. is it free for me to use?

No one is using it currently, and scanning through the silent member's list it shouldn't pose a future problem, either (no Hipster, Katmandu, Catherine, etc). Easy to forget how many people from elsewhere are registered here that never made more than a few token appearances in the past. (Probably scared off by politics, which thankfully has finally died down in here. Arguably an awkward thing to see dominating on science message boards.)
