Joni Mitchell's mysterious illness

"Joni Mitchell is one of the most beloved of folk singers from the 1960’s protest and 70’s hippie era. She endeared many fans to her simple and sincere form of “music with a conscience.” Therefore, it is no surprise that she would somehow be chosen to confer legitimacy to a skin-crawling disease known as Morgellons.

In addition to being known as the Plague of the 21st Century, Morgellons is also known by many other names, each of which misrepresents the true seriousness or causes of the syndrome. Morgellons is in fact a multi-infection syndrome which has a number of different causative factors as well as various pathogenic micro-organisms present.

Because it has never been formally recognized by the American medical establishment as a scientifically-proven disease process, proper diagnosis is rare. Effective treatment regimens are therefore even more unlikely to be formulated by doctors who refuse to acknowledge its existence. That’s where the advocacy of famous people like Joni Mitchell can be of invaluable assistance.

Mitchell has apparently suffered from Morgellons for many years now and displays many of the classic physical symptoms experienced by the vast majority of those who have been likewise afflicted. Her psychological profile, which has become quite well known by the general public, is also very consistent with a full-blown Morgellons syndrome..."===

Morgellons?
Sounds like science fiction.

Morgollian:
"I am a Morgellon. I come from the planet Morgos.
I like clouds, but only half the time......yersss"

I am, but mainly was, a big fan.
I listened to Joni Mitchell almost every day for two years.
Before she adopted her needlessly pretentious arty jazz style and started painting.
She already had genius. She didn't need to become a caricature of one.

I think the insects delusion is a metaphor for the unwanted attention of the public.
That's us. The fans.

She thinks we are like ants.

I looked at pics of Morgellons under Google images. Many show colored threads coming out of sores. I don't know about that. I think any sore will aquire threads from wearing clothes or rubbing against blankets. And itchiness comes and goes and can be related to medications, allegies, nerves, etc. There's also a condition that makes you pick at yourself nervously until scabs appear. In any case, at least this should be treated as a mental condition. I mean who WANTS to believe they are afflicted with a fatal skin disease? Give that girl some Prozac! Maybe she'll write some happy songs for a change!

Ever watched " A Beautiful Mind". Film about the mathematician John Nash.
He had to try to live with his mental illness.
The drugs made him uncreative.

Yes..I really enjoyed that movie. Something John Nash said really helped me too:

“Because the ideas I had about supernatural beings came to me the same way that my mathematical ideas did. So I took them seriously.” ― John Nash

I don't know about drugs making one uncreative. But I DO know depression is too high price to pay for just being creative. I'll take wanting to wake up in the morning to live my life over being creative any day.

I watched that film again this week.
The first viewing is the best, because you can't work out what is true and what isn't.
