"(CNN) -- Police are calling for witnesses after two women were beaten and robbed in a homophobic attack on a London bus.

One of the victims, Melania Geymonat, posted a photo on Facebook of herself and her girlfriend, Chris, covered in blood, along with a detailed account of the assault in English and Spanish.

The incident happened in the early hours of on May 30 on a night bus in Camden, north London.

"As they sat on the top deck they were approached by a group of four males who began to make lewd and homophobic comments to them," the police statement reads. "The women were then attacked and punched several times before the males ran off the bus. A phone and bag were stolen during the assault."

"Both women were taken to hospital for treatment to facial injuries."

Geymonat said on Facebook that at least four men started harassing her and her girlfriend when they saw them kissing on the upper deck of the bus.

"They started behaving like hooligans, demanding that we kissed so they could enjoy watching, calling us 'lesbians' and describing sexual positions," she wrote.

Geymonat said she started making jokes in an attempt to defuse the situation. But the men "kept on harassing us, throwing us coins and becoming more enthusiastic about it."

"The next thing I know is that Chris is in the middle of the bus fighting with them," Geymonat said. "On an impulse, I went over there only to find her face bleeding and three of them beating her up. The next thing I know is I'm being punched."

"I got dizzy at the sight of my blood and fell back."

Geymonat said she doesn't remember whether she lost consciousness. Then the bus stopped and police arrived, she said.

"I don't know yet if my nose is broken, and I haven't been able to go back to work, but what upsets me the most is that VIOLENCE HAS BECOME A COMMON THING, that sometimes it's necessary to see a woman bleeding after having been punched to feel some kind of impact," she said.

"We have to endure verbal harassment AND CHAUVINIST, MISOGYNISTIC AND HOMOPHOBIC VIOLENCE because when you stand up for yourself s**t like this happens."

CNN has contacted Geymonat for comment.

London's mayor, Sadiq Khan, condemned the incident on Twitter, saying it was a "disgusting, misogynistic attack."

"Hate crimes against the LGBT+ community will not be tolerated in London," he added."

Authority figures have been doling out for circa two decades the repeated mantras of "this is a wake-up call" and "hate crimes against the LGBT+ community will not be tolerated in London".

But there have been improvements in police training as well as harsher sentences. ("The court boosted his sentence from nine months to a year to reflect the hate crime element." 10-2018) Mitigated if a significant chunk of the prosecution is action against teens, though. Threats of added punishment roll off the cognitively impaired adolescent mind, and trying to get them to conform via propaganda and classroom instruction often provokes a percentage to rebel against such establishment virtues all the more.

(Oct 2018) Rise in reported LGBT+ hate crime in UK a 'wake-up call': "Police recorded 11,638 hate crimes on the basis of sexual orientation between 2017 and 2018, up from 9,157 the previous year, and 1,651 hate crimes against transgender people up from 1,248. They said the rise may reflect improvements in police recording of such offences and greater reporting of incidents, rather than a genuine increase."

(Sept 2017) Attacks on LGBT people surge almost 80% in UK over last four years: "Alarmingly, amid the soaring scale of hate crime, there has been widespread underreporting, with the study showing that four in five LGBT people who experienced a hate crime or incident in the past 12 months did not report it to the police. [...] Much of the hate crime takes place in public spaces."

(2011) Tower Hamlets’ gay community has become a particular target of extremists. [...] Last year (2010), a mob of 30 young Muslims stormed a local gay pub, the George and Dragon, beating and abusing patrons. Many customers of the pub told The Sunday Telegraph that they have been attacked and harassed by local Muslim youths. In 2008 a 20-year-old student, Oli Hemsley, was left permanently paralysed after an attack by a group of young Muslims outside the pub. Only one of his assailants has been caught and jailed. (Police 'covered up' violent campaign to turn London area 'Islamic')

(March 2009) In Bromley, south London, UK, 59-year-old Gerry Edwards was stabbed to death by an assailant shouting homophobic abuse.

(September 2009) 62-year-old Ian Baynham was attacked outside South Africa House in Trafalgar Square in London by three youths shouting homophobic abuse.

(April 2006) A man was jailed for a homophobic attack on an openly gay Anglican priest.

(2002) Crown Prosecution Service announced a 'zero tolerance' approach towards perpetrators of anti-gay offences

(Nov 2000) Damilola Taylor was attacked by a local gang of youths ... in Peckham, south London; he bled to death after being stabbed with a broken bottle in the thigh, which severed the femoral artery.

Gay actors hit with stones for kissing in public on their way to perform
https://metro.co.uk/2019/06/09/gay-actor...m-9877242/

INTRO: A young gay couple have been attacked while on the way to perform in an LGBT play. Lucy Jane Parkinson and Rebecca Banatvala had an object thrown at them from a passing car yesterday in Southampton while they were kissing. Ms Parkinson, who was knocked to the ground and slightly injured, said she heard ‘young boys laughing’ as the car drove off. She told the BBC: ‘We’re just two people looking for happiness like everybody else. I don’t really understand why we’re met with aggression, from strangers to strangers. It’s made realise the importance of this play and stories like it.’ (MORE)

We don't really see these kinds of teen crimes in the US...but the UK is so much more enlightened, right?

I am thinking the incel (involuntary celibate) 'thing' might be some sort of explanation for something that seems (to me) otherwise inexplicable.

Maybe not like everybody else. Maybe there's a Pitsville where people really aren't looking for happiness. It may be just a phase they are going through but you really don't want to meet a bunch of them late at night on your way home.
The whole LGBTQ+ thing is all about sex and it offers nothing to the unattractive heterosexual male. The neo Nazis offer something to these (young?) people - power.

There's not much inexplicable about teenage boys being susceptible to gang-like activity, which can often include preying on vulnerable people/populations (knockout game, etc.), especially where law enforcement is incompetent or hamstrung and social mores and accountability are slipping. Many teenage boys have some sexual insecurities, but I don't know that they're old enough to accept that they're condemned to involuntary celibacy. I'd have to see figures correlating those two. Just like I'd need facts to support any claims that these juvenile attacks are related to Neo-Nazis. So it seems like a lot of wild speculation in lieu of just a modicum of reason.

Of course, there's no word about the race of the teens, where they could be ideologically driven Muslims, nor is there corroborating evidence of this last one being anything more than a fake claim to promote their LGBT play. But assuming they're both true, there's little reason to go about demonizing what could easily be simple delinquent behavior.

Calling them hate crimes doesn't necessarily mean that they are motivated by hate of a particular group. But weak people often feel the need to exaggerate threats as having more animus than they may in reality.

Wow, this is really sick.  Sad It's like a different kind of hate crime; not sure if they're homophobic, or just sick in that they view all women as sex objects and think we're for their viewing pleasure. Or both.

Like a way to mock these two women, by bullying them to do what they wanted. This world makes me sad, sometimes.
