The no-no of "starting out with already hot water" might occasionally even involve some people trying to get a jump on the boiling time by getting it from the hot tap. Unhealthy metals may leach of the hot water tank, as well bacteria thriving in its warm environment. (The latter will die during the boiling, but any toxic waste and by-products released by a rarer species while alive might possibly endure.)
