Here's something kind of heart warming.
The Paradise girls volleyball team was scheduled to play in the CIF NorCal Division IV Semifinals. Then the fire hit and they fled like everyone else. Suddenly homeless, they still wanted to play in their big game. Most of them lost their uniforms, their school didn't exist any more, and they planned to wear homemade uniforms consisting of t-shirts with their numbers written on them in marker.
But when they showed up at the opposing team's school in Auburn California, they found that their opponents had had new uniforms prepared for them, complete with pads and sneakers. Each player was given a $300 gift card and they say that nobody had ever seen that gym more packed for a game. After the game they were treated to dinner and their opponents gave the Paradise team $16,000 that they had collected in donations.
...Paradise lost the game.
