Aspirin-a-day risky in old age - major study (DIY, self-medicating)

EXCERPT: Elderly people in good health should not take an aspirin a day, according to a major study in the US and Australia. There are proven benefits of the drug for people after a heart attack or stroke. But the trial found no benefit for healthy people over the age of 70, and the pills increased the risk of potentially fatal internal bleeding. Experts described the results as very important and cautioned against self-medicating with aspirin....

I have the chewable orange flavored 40 mg aspirin on my counter with the lid off just in case I start having a heart attack or stroke. A few strange aches in my chest and arm that went away in about 3 minutes warranted taking an aspirin a few times. But so far no major events to speak of.
