It's displaying a program. The program's creators (who aren't the tv) may have had some communicative intent.

Quote:And by watching tv you are communicating with it.

How? Maybe if it's one of those thoroughly creepy new "smart" tvs that reports what you are watching back to Google or your cable provider so they can target advertising at you. (While having the ability to keep a dossier on you at the same time.)

Quote:Your thoughts can influence the outcome of the program.

The outcome of the program is depicted in scenes that were written in a screen play and acted by actors in front of a camera, probably many months before the show is aired.

How does my watching my tv change the screenplay and scenes that people performed long before I happened to turn on my television?

Just using the magic word "quantum" doesn't make it true.

I am not spuriously making up the fact that preceding the show's outcome, the observer's mind can influence the event in the Quantum world. What you, Yazata, are talking about is the average Classical event. I am referring exclusively to Quantum observer effects.

Quote:No, it does not mean that I am crazy. Simple belief does not make one crazy. Outside reality is no constraint to physicality.

is the same as saying...

Quote:Yes, it means I'm crazy.

....when possibilities are endless.

Reality is closed. This means information cannot escape from it. When a transtemporal feedback loop is established between mind and reality, reality responds reflexively to thought.

Sorry Ostro. You still haven't convinced me.

I think that you use the word 'quantum' like a magical incantation, meaning something like 'anything goes' and 'everything that other people think is wrong'.

Like I told you before, if you believe that you can really change physical reality with the psychic powers of your mind, then go to your nearest major university (the U. of Toronto?) walk into the physics department and demonstrate that ability for them. After you do it a few times, they will get all excited, will be calling all their colleagues and will be smelling Nobel prizes to come.

I don't think a self-aware universe would permit me to do so. I've tried it with my brother and the light stopped communicating or showing signs of its existence as soon as I opened my mouth. I am not inserting the word "Quantum" spuriously.

My TV spoke to me today. It said, "Get your free bottle of Peter Popoff's Miracle Water".

No doubt once this works its way through the quantum world, it won't be free.

Then it told me, "Better get Geico"

Ah yes, surreptitiously sly of you to propose that there is no distinction between the television in both the Quantum and classical worlds. But yes, you are partially correct. Once viewed, the wavefunction has collapsed and time cannot reverse.

Or perhaps time corresponds to memory.

Ok Ostro, I'm not adverse to giving you a leg to stand on Big Grin

Not sure about everyone else but when I think, it's as if I'm carrying on a conversation with myself. The words are coming from some part of my brain the same way they do when I read. I've pondered this for quite a long time now, why does it seem like a two step process? It's as if a separate part of me listens to my thoughts, same as if I was reading, processes the information and some other part of me forms the opinion. You're probably going to tell me that my brain is communicating with my mind, consciousness or something beyond belief. Personally I don't think that way and prefer to accept that it's just another task the brain performs.

next...

I was just emailed ultrasound pictures of my unborn grandchild. Obviously there is some kind of device that translates sound waves, turning them into images for viewing. Is whatever this machinery does, by your way of thinking, similar to how we view reality? However that machine will not tell me if the images are beautiful, ugly or otherwise. Again, those opinions seem to form from somewhere else within me, an event which I contend is easy to think is really happening. Since the brain is not fully understood, it factors in my decision that once again, this is a natural product of life chemistry.

IOW there is a huge gap between an incomplete understanding of the workings of the brain and the jump to conclude quantum mechanics enables my tv to do funny things. Once brain research is exhausted and there is still no answer then and only then would I start thinking you may be on to something. It will at that point only, entice me to think of WTF is going on.
