The problem is that, for the most part, we're talking about actresses who are either already huge successes (and their name alone still means box office returns) or at the end of their careers (so there's no real risk). So either they're covering for someone, or they hope to get their name back into the public consciousness. Still sounds transactional to me. Just instead of sexual favors, many of them may be seeking to trade personal tragedy (real or fabricated) for another chance.
