In Defense of Elitism

Since elitism is basically about how a society favors a particular group, how much value that group brings to the whole of a society...it's kind of sad really, how many people feel that celebrities and athletes bring more value to society than intellectuals. But, it's not surprising. I ran across an article that the US is ''getting dumber'' and the author questioned why? Well, maybe it's our priorities.

I don't think society appreciates or values intellectual pursuits (as a whole) as much as it does sports and entertainment.

indeed.
i wonder if in the usa it is a mechanism of greed.
obviousely the usa defines greed as a possitive personal quality.
sport tends to give the appearance of no effort to suddenyl become wealthy(rarely if ever the case)
where as Celebrity status is much the reality.
Actors & Atheletes generally start training around age 5 to 10 years old.
intellectuals usually show a pre-dispotion to a field around the same time.

the perception of value and worth attributed to a social model is maybe more soo what is chased as a egocentric paradigm of greed & lust, which feeds the primary emotional core of wants.
this feeding of greed & lust is counter intuitive to intellectual persuite.
the lie that many sell & tel themselves is probably equally shared.

i tend to draw a clear distinction between actors & Celebritys whom might include actors or Artists.
Actors & Artists can be Celebritys, yet Celebritys the likes of popular reality TV characters are not Actors or Artists as a profesional skill set.

when you look at a rough group of the top 50 male & female Actors in the western world they all started when they were a child, AND they have a specific personal talent that lends to their years of study.
they also tend to all have specific hobbys which lend to the specific profesion.

is Elitism a projected Illusion for the purpose of hiding real skills & talents ?

It's much simpler than that. People like what they understand. And the average IQ is, well, average.
