)-(ey /\/\R, i have watched a science documentary showing how large mice can make piano sounds.(not music)
they cant make cohesive chords, but if they are fighting they can make piano strings sound while the fighting squeek noises might be too high pitched for older ears to hear.
older and/or dehydrated or drunk etc...
just running across the bridge wont make proper string strikes but when the population gets out of control or they are nesting in the pinao it surely can happen.
the hypnogogic state in dreaming is something that happens quite a bit when people are suffering anxiety, sleep depravation & various types of truama and in such, realty is mixed with dreams, thus a single sound can then have the imagination try and put an understandable frame of completely false events around it so it is understood by part of the brain.
I always liked Liberace. He could take a joke and dish it out too. Great entertainer.
Personally I don't care what someone believes. Don't care. All I expect from a believer is to admit that it is only a belief and until proven then it stays that way. I'm not against ghosts or rodents playing a piano but I can show you that rodent activity can produce sounds from a piano. So all MR has to do on this trip is to hear sounds, not just any noise from the old pianoforte, but sounds associated with a key being struck either poorly or with great precision. His number one priority, before claiming a ghost is responsible, is to prove there can be no other source. If this means investigating the piano thoroughly for rodents, mechanical defects, or even wires and speakers then he must do that first. He'll need witnesses, possibly video or snapshots or even an interview with the spirit behind it all, and that's just for starters.
Why pianos emit sounds with no one present should have been dealt with long ago. Oh wait, I think it has and to this date no one has proof of ghosts tinkling the ivories. I'll be the first in line to remove any doubt or skepticism I harbor for such a result once all evidence is verified. I see nothing wrong with this expectation.

piano tuners & the mystacism of old world ignorant defensive protectionism.
2am snapping piano strings is enough to test the leakage quality of your undergarments in a quiet house.
Given the large size of a house rich enough to afford a piano & the consequential bedrooms being upstairs and beyond a large echoey hall...
the ability to isolate and divine direction of singular or even dual noises would be next to impossible to the general person.
What host does not like a unique heightenned expereince for their house guests to remember the distinction of their visit ?
"it's not you, its the E talking"
i.e its not ghosts(& you are not going mad) its your mind talking/singing/playing a piece of music etc...
assuming we are not going to get into how much lead poisoning & use of helucinatory subtances.
i wonder how common it was for a poison mushroom to accidentially get in amongst a large dinner partys main stew or soup...
addendum
neuralogical evolution & the expansion of undisciplined awarenes... the age of industrial revolution wouldhave been quite the intellectual & neuralogical catalyst.

Glad you said it and not me.
That's a bingo. The Paranormal is big business, probably in the large $billions. But so is writing fiction. Where does the paranormal belong in a library?

There are surely "paranormal attractants" that are submitted to and reviewed by some expert domain, rather a guest having to be dependent upon sci-fi / fantasy and its Venkman-like devices that are almost guaranteed to be impotent outside of their applicable movies and literature. Bringing one or more along might enhance the odds, granting that the hotel establishment would allow such "bait".

with a very low occupancy you hopefully should be able to get quite a substantial discount for extra days.
pick your own room once you get there i suggest. walk around and choose one that feels like it will have what you are wanting(at your own risk).
Quote:True, but you should be more afraid of rest areas than I am. Worldwide, 78.7% of homicide victims are male. In the U.S. it's 77.8%.
With odds that great it shouldn't really matter much where I am when I get murdered.

The only intelligent phantom rumored to haunt the hotel is a suicidal gardner. Perhaps I will provoke him for the shear delight of it.
I will probably be up late on the night of my stay (May 10th) and will report details in this thread. Perhaps download some photos. I am so zen about this. I find the thrill of a new experience as great as that of a possible paranormal encounter. When it's meant to happen, it will happen. If not, oh well.
