Number seven on the Halloween list (not a ranking). The previous is here: https://www.scivillage.com/thread-2918-p...l#pid46647

A song that's inclusive of that now defunct, treacherous hippie trail to Bombay (and other destinations). Wink

Sympathy for the Devil

The 1968 original: https://youtu.be/Jwtyn-L-2gQ

Here's the Natalie Merchant cover of it (live, 1995): https://youtu.be/gMC1aiwjDeA

Ann Wilson (of Heart): cover of "Sympathy for the Devil" - The Rolling Stones

Number nine on the Halloween list (not a ranking). The previous is just above this post.

Twilight Zone (Golden Earring, not the TV show theme)

The R rated, original 1982 European video is here (topless scene warning): https://youtu.be/F9AzBiJaFxo
The original song set to footage from "The Americans": https://youtu.be/4Ak_kJ-WsTg
An acoustic (band) version by Golden Earring themselves (1992, live): https://youtu.be/m2MFNbNzNsE
- - - - -

Traditional guy vocalist cover with Mike Massé (guitar) & Sterling Cottam (bass):

Minimalist, lounge music like cover by Tess Gaerthe (excellent vocals) & Thomas Zwijsen (guitar):

In terms of something different, the following three bands (the last one embedded) deliver energetic covers featuring female singers. All the latter are "husky" or mature voiced enough that they maintain the masculine mood of the original (i.e., these are not "sweet" renditions).

Some Canadian Band. Good performance, but the recorded audio quality is slightly inferior to the one below.

The Pheromones. Good performance & sound; but taking place at a nightclub, dance floor, or gathering slash reunion setting.

Number twelve on the Halloween list. The previous is above or the post before.

Frankie Teardrop (1977)
by Suicide: “The band that will always sound like the future.” – Dangerous Minds

The development in morbid, pathological intensity is quite slow, so the listener will have to hang in there.

It becomes quite meaningless if you don't first listen to the gradually evolving monotony of the opening necrophonic thuds and trans-Earthly din. So don't jump to the xeno-demonic vocals at around the 3:18 mark, or you will lose that primary edification.
