Wasteland Post-apocalyptic Festival

It's kind of a Burning Man for Mad Max fans, located in California's Mojave Desert. The setting is post-nuclear-war anarchy, with everyone dressed in leather, living in tents and stockades, and driving war wagons made out of junk cars and trucks.

Seems strange at first glance. All those years removed from when the original films came out, or that overall apocalyptic craze of the '80s. But I guess no more so than the sporadic revivals of other intellectual, artistic, and sub-cultural phases of the past.

It was surprising how many Oscars the new Mad Max film by George Miller garnered this year. Maybe it's a retro-80's kind of thing, complete with the punk spiked dos, green hair, and body peircings. There was always something very dystopian about the punk craze. A reversion to wild barbarism against a landscape of Reagan era nuclear desolation.
