Hopefully virtual worlds won't have outrun actual ones by then in terms of novelty, detail, complexity, and total sensory immersion. Otherwise the posthumans may retreat brains-in-vats fashion into innerspace for good and leave outer space to the embodied artilects. The latter probably not designed to need entertainment and vacations, since fun makes for a bad 24/7 worker in the traditions of elite landowners and industrial moguls.
Ah, but there's always the technophobic Ludds, austere anchorites, and other discomfort-craving atavistic primates that might rebelliously be around. In that futuristic context, a backwardly uncomfortable and mentally-challenged lifestyle would be just roughing it the way mainstream, non-poverty stricken, contemporary humans do. |
