JK Rowling history on puberty blockers

January 11, 2026: J.K. Rowling has signed a petition against a proposed NHS trial of puberty blockers, calling it an "unethical experiment on children." The petition, with nearly 74,000 signatures, argues the trial risks irreversible harm to children, citing concerns about consent and the Cass Review's findings on puberty blockers. The trial aims to evaluate risks and benefits, but critics threaten legal action, and Rowling also urged politicians to take threats from trans activists seriously.

It’s mad that we’re relying on JK Rowling to save our children from the horrors of puberty blockers: Within hours of the Harry Potter author posting a link to the "Cancel The Clinical Trial Into Puberty Blockers" petition on Sunday afternoon, the crucial 100,000 signatory line had been reached and crossed.

[...] I say "self-evidently", yet we've been sleepwalking into this dystopian disaster, and as grateful as I am for Rowling's involvement, we should have been roused from our stupors well before now.

Which part of the announcement – back in November of last year – didn't prompt an instant double-take from anyone who saw it? The waving of a thousand red flags? To reiterate, it's underage children who are to be used as guinea pigs in this "gender incongruence" trial, set to go ahead within days – 220 of them, between the ages of 10 and 15.

July 29, 2024: JK Rowling praised yesterday a High Court ruling upholding a ban on puberty blockers for trans children. The Harry Potter author and women’s rights campaigner described the judgment on X: 'High court rules the UK ban on puberty blockers is lawful. We seem, at last, to be moving back to treatment for vulnerable youth based on evidence-based medicine, as opposed to the unevidenced claims of ideological lobby groups.'

August 29, 2024: The Harry Potter author has shown her support for a wide range of humanitarian causes working with women and children, including the creation of the Lumos organization to seek to end the institutionalization of children following an article in the Sunday Times newspaper back in 2004 about children being kept in caged beds in an institution.

July 6, 2020: Rowling, a cis woman and author, has been criticised by many trans people and their allies for broadcasting her views on trans people and their healthcare to her 14.4 million Twitter followers, despite the fact that she is not a recipient of trans healthcare, nor a provider of one.

In a Sunday afternoon (July 5) Twitter thread, Rowling expanded on a previous “like” of a tweet that suggested doctors were sometimes prescribing hormonal treatment out of “pure laziness”.

“Yes they are sometimes necessary and lifesaving, but they should be a last resort – not the first option,” read the original liked tweet. “Pure laziness for those who would rather medicate than put in the time and effort to heal people’s minds.”

Rowling’s claims that “many health professionals are concerned that young people struggling with their mental health are being shunted towards hormones and surgery when this may not be in their best interests” and her assertion that “many, myself included, believe we are watching a new kind of conversion therapy for young gay people, who are being set on a lifelong path of medicalisation that may result in the loss of their fertility and/or full sexual function” were derided by many in the trans community.

Hmmm....maybe the radicality of the solution is proportional to the desperation and suffering of the affliction itself. Think suicide and depression for example. Think becoming a medicated zombie and being schizophrenic. Think the lap band and morbid obesity. And maybe think empathizing more instead of making snap moral judgements about things you have no clue about. I'm looking at you JK!

Yep, the left still wants to sterilize children.

Puberty suppression disrupts the maturation of the reproductive system and loss of fertility is a known risk. What remains unclear is the extent to which fertility can be attained if puberty suppression is halted. The fertility of children treated with puberty blockers for central precocious puberty does not appear to be affected, but no studies have examined the long term effect of puberty suppression during the normal window for puberty (1). One study found that natal males whose puberty is supressed at Tanner stage 2 or 3 did not produce viable sperm (2). Puberty suppression frequently leads to gender affirming hormone therapy and the combination of the two will almost certainly cause sterility. Because of these risks, it has been recommended that patients be provided with fertility counselling and given options for fertility preservation before receiving puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones or surgery (3).

The notion that a minor could have any reasonable understanding of the long-term consequences that could require fertility preservation is ridiculous and irresponsible.

The notion that minors have no valid experience of suffering nor the ability to understand the solution as offering real hope for something better than what they are going thru is delusional and infantilizing. As if minors inherently lack any conscious agency or freedom of choice over their own lives. In any other situation the parents' approval would be enough. Why is it suddenly not in this case? Simple. It's because you deny the fluidity and subjectivity of gender. As if it were some static dichotomous permanent property of biological bodies when in fact they are only two culturally-ingrained categorical abstractions we are used to imposing on human beings for the purposes of easy identification. Card-carrying members of either boys or girls club! Nothing in between now! Don't go into the wrong public restroom!

Yes, we all know the left likes to attribute more agency to minors... so minors can consent to things like sex (especially older gay men).
Getting through puberty is almost universally a hard time in anyone's life. Adding to the confusion, with a "fluidity of gender," is cruel. Children do not come up with such things on their own. It has to be indoctrinated into them.

This very modern idea that tom-boys must really be boys and dandies must really be girls ignores an entire history of people outgrowing phases in life or becoming completely well-adjusted adults even with some non-typical gender traits... all without mutilating their bodies or sterilizing them.
