INTRO: Artificial intelligence is advancing on the assumption that the brain is essentially a computer and if that is true, replicating the mind in silicon is only a matter of time. Philosopher Dorothea Olkowski argues this is one of the biggest mistakes in the history of science. Consciousness does not originate in the cortex, the seat of reasoning and language, but in the brainstem, the most ancient part of the brain, shaped by body chemistry and emotion. The proposition that the brain is not a computer is a mistaken one. This is because reality and the brain mirror each other in Quantum level processing. So in actuality the brain displays binary logic in its inherent read/ write operation.

Do note that this is not an attempt to be contradictory.

I would say that at an unconscious level the brain is in the very least a computational "wet" artilect unlike anything we've ever invented. One might even call it our own AI level. At that basic machine level it's performing tons of parallel operations at lightning fast speed and issuing prompts thuout our nervous system that rivals all technologies at this point. There are things you just know and perceive and do without thinking about them. That's your own intracerebral supercomputer in action!

However, this doesn't mean that the higher levels of consciousness are computational as well. Our consciousness--our direct awareness of our being--- arises out of the global interactivity of the computational with the emotional and biochemical. It is an emergent presence that has hi-jacked the whole underlying hardware. A "ghost in the machine"
