Just playing Devil’s Advocate…my skeptical opinion is all this is.
I guess it’s time for a trial run. What’s Musk’s timetable? Didn’t he predict by 2036 for a lunar city? He’s actually changed focus somewhat away from establishing a Martian colony because he can launch more often to the moon. Perhaps he plans for Tesla’s Optimus robots to hit the lunar surface. Maybe he has a surprise for us. We shall see.
There’s also no question about it, plus it’s well documented, that Musk has a disdain for market short sellers and the big hedge funds that facilitate the practice. They just piss him off, yet…. Some hedge funds have a huge stake in SpaceX and plan to short it while others are hoping to cash in on what they consider a company that will deliver. SpaceX beyond the reach of most retail but I think he’s set it up that only 5% is actually available for retail. If it fails some hedge funds will be seriously hurt. He’s convinced these fund companies to invest on faith, not exactly what you might expect from them and of course the guy at the top, Elon gets paid first. I figure he doesn’t really need the money but if some hedge funds become casualties then he’s still happy.
Personally I like Musk and if he’s out to get some revenge on some big boys then he’ll have retail’s enduring love. Revenge may not be good for mutual funds that have SpaceX in the portfolio.
