VIDEO EXCERPTS: Well, we just got some pretty horrible news that Amazon has cancelled the new Stargate revival. This is one of the few things I was sincerely looking forward to. [...] I think the whole fandom wanted this. And it's really sad that these corporate executives and these suits really do not understand science fiction and what makes it great.

There was a vision here and I know it was going to be done right. They had people working on it who had been involved with the original Stargate. They knew what made this franchise great. Amazon's cancelling this because it's too much like Stargate. That is not what they want. Stupid.

And this is what they do every single time. They just do not respect the fans. They do not respect the franchises. They want a new modern audience, and it's really disappointing.

[...] So yes, Amazon killed the Stargate revival because it's too much like Stargate. That is the story of the day. [...] less than 7 months after the show got a whole series order in November 2025. So the decision to kill the project came after the show had completed a 20-week writer room that was in pre-production in the United Kingdom. 20 weeks of writing, locations were scouted, production was underway, and then the call came.

The stated reason from Amazon was that executives were concerned that the series would not have broad appeal beyond the franchise's already dedicated fan base. Now, when you have a big dedicated fan base and an established brand, you want that fan base energized and active and evangelizing for you. This is what they don't seem to understand, right?

You are not just going to get some random new group. They tried this with Doctor Who and they tried this with Kurtzman's Star Trek shows. So the new group of viewers doesn't come in with enough numbers [LGBT+, Muslims, Neo-Marxist feminists, etc] and the old group says screw this. It's not my show...

Probably really killed due to Trump wanting things filmed in the US. Thus pulling out of where they were filming.
Any other story/excuse is just to attack the left or not identify that it's the fault of the right.

Amazon might still be interested in doing a radically different version of Stargate. But the traditional fan base has made it clear that they will trash it if such happens. While Joseph Mallozzi may believe that Gero's project fulfilled Amazon's original demands, clearly it did retain the original canon and other aspects for the sake of the old audience. That's not what Amazon wanted.

EXCERPTS: According to a person familiar with the decision, Amazon executives were worried that Gero's version of the show wouldn't appeal to many people outside the existing Stargate fanbase. The tech giant seems committed to the franchise, though. The company has been keen to develop new projects since acquiring MGM Studios in 2022 and is still exploring other ways to keep the franchise going despite cancelling Gero's series. [...] While Gero's version won't be seeing the light of day, it's safe to assume that Amazon's continued interest suggests the iconic sci-fi saga may yet return in another form.

Reports regarding the Stargate cancellation indicate that the decision came because “Amazon execs were concerned that Gero’s take on the series would not have broad appeal beyond the franchise’s already dedicated fanbase” which is something Mallozzi’s comments seem to refute with his acknowledgement that Gero had created something that would be a jumping-on point. However, the idea that Amazon was worried about appeal already has some fans planning for how to deal with what, if anything, the studio comes up with in the future.

On social media, a fan account operating as a character parody account wrote that if the studio tries to come back with a “cringey ‘modern audience’” approach to Stargate, they’ll just start counter programming via YouTube or a podcast to call them out.

“If AmaSlopStudios brings Stargate back with some cringey ‘modern audience’ favorable director and ruins the series, I will start a YouTube channel or podcast for the express purpose of exposing how absolutely shit their new version is in excruciating detail.” they wrote.

At this time, it’s unclear if Amazon has any plans to explore a different approach to the Stargate franchise, but one thing is clear from fan reaction: if the studio does eventually look to do another new Stargate, they may not have the goodwill of fans. Many fans online responded to the news of the series’ cancellation by noting just how big of a mistake Amazon is making in potentially alienating the existing audience.

EXCERPTS: The fandom has to stay united. We have to stay active. We have to stay pushing on this if Amazon's going to get any kind of message and do anything about it. Now, I'll give updates over what we've seen the last 72 hours.

The Stargate franchise, the fans, uh the actors, the writers are all unified. I've never seen anything like this because, you know, usually it's the fans versus the actors and the writers, right? In modern times. But everybody seems to be on board and it's been a beautiful, beautiful thing to watch as it's gone along.

I usually get a lot of flak from the left side of the aisle and a lot of people over there are actually reaching out to me and talking because they want to work together. This is really beautiful to see. I will talk about what we need to do, what we need to keep going.

[...] Now, there's a misnomer in the way that they handle things on Amazon and all these corporations. They think there's a "broad modern audience" that you're supposed to appeal to. That broad modern audience never comes in for any sci-fi or fantasy related projects. Because it isn't a broad audience.

What they're talking about is actually preaching identity politics to a small segment of people. Only like 1 to 3% of the population actually cares about that stuff. And those people typically don't watch sci-fi. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy of just killing your own series.

The stuff that doesn't have all that preaching is what the real "broad audience" wants...
