Exploring the DMT Realm and the Nature of Reality

INTRO: Dr. Andrew Gallimore is a computational neurobiologist, chemical pharmacologist, and writer, living and working in Tokyo. [...] the author of three books ... and the forthcoming Death by Astonishment -- Confronting the Mystery of the World’s Strangest Drug, which focuses on the history of DMT and science’s continuing struggle to understand how such a simple naturally-occurring molecule can have such astonishing effects on the human mind. His current interests lie in implications of DMT in understanding the nature of reality, and how it might be developed as a tool for extended communication with non-human intelligences inaccessible to normal waking consciousness.

INTRO: In this fascinating conversation, Dennis McKenna takes us on a wild journey through his psychedelic adventures and the mysterious world of ancient consciousness. [...] The discussion ends with some mind bending ideas about consciousness, reality, and the possibility that we are all part of a vast, interconnected intelligence. He touches on the strange mysteries of alien encounters and the potential of DMT research to reveal deeper truths about our existence. This is not just a story about drugs—it’s a story about how we perceive the world, and what might be waiting just beyond the edge of ordinary awareness.

But even if we're alone, it could as much be the diverse, engineered beings and species of our post-human future, who cracked the code of the universe and infiltrated the whole of spacetime at a covert level with their DMT cyberspace.

Or more likely, our world is actually one of their ancestor simulations (Bostrum), and the chemical just enables access to information streams from the other complex virtual worlds inhabiting the technological network producing and maintaining ours.

Or in more ancient context, it really is breaking through to a higher stratum that makes ours possible. Albeit the sophisticated "machine" appearances of these psychonaut affairs really does instead point more to our contemporary context for simulation, rather than the immaterial or intellectual realms of old outputting an oneirocosmos (dream world).

OTOH, pretty difficult to imagine Tibetan monks centuries ago experiencing what these contemporary individuals do, which shifts things back to mere sophisticated hallucinations borrowing elements from their time periods. Though they would have been confined to describing and referring to their visions in the metaphors of their less advanced society.

Terence McKenna going thru 4 possibilities for who the DMT entities are:

He DOES include aliens, speculating that perhaps they travel not thru Newtonian 3D space but thru the Mind. But it just seems strange that they'd only be accessible by smoking or ingesting a chemical that has been in hallucinogenic plants for who knows maybe millions of years. I'm sort of inclining to the Jungian view of autonomous psychic elements, much as say voices can be as well as tulpas, dream figures, disassociated personality alters, and the various fantastical beings of visionary lore. In my experience such beings cannot be trusted to give you correct information about what it is all about. They are like little children playing a game with us, just milking us of the energy of our attention.

Just a guess but I would think any hallucinogenic molecule produced naturally by a plant is actually a survival mechanism. Don’t think we’re the only critter that is affected by ingesting it. Incapacitating those that prey on the plant to the point where they let down their guard sounds like a recipe for getting rid of an enemy. Those that eat the plant eventually die or evolve to leave it alone. Pretty simple formula that has stood the test of time. Then we showed up and synthesized the molecule…another win for the plant?
