What if I consumed only the raw ingredients the body uses for energy? Would I be healthier or do we need all the other stuff that’s in traditional food? If it does work, what would it feel like to have a perfectly balanced diet? I just want to be in good health and spend as little time and money on food as possible.
I haven’t eaten a bite of food in 30 days, and it’s changed my life.

Sounds like Rob Rhinehart has a substitute for that six months worth of freeze-dried food that Ted Koppel wants Americans to stock up on to survive the cyber-attack on the US power grid.

It's PEOPLE!  Actually, I would be reluctant to use soylent because I try to eat foods that have the special nutrients like sulpher compounds, carotenes, and others.  The best way to be sure to get them is to eat natural foods.  I seem to recall recently reading that a sulphoraphane in broccoli or leafy greens helps to turn off cancer genes.

Quote:David Wishart... His food metabolome database is a more recent effort: it contains about 30,000 chemicals derived directly from food. Wishart estimates that both databases may end up listing more than a million compounds. "Humans eat an incredible variety of foods," he says. "Then those are all transformed by our body. And they're turned into all kinds of other compounds." We have no idea what they all are, he adds – or what they do.

I'd suggest that prolonged use of a formula over food would probably cause problems with the digestive system. While indeed a formula of nutrients can be enough to create a meal, there are some things that we eat that contain microbes which keeps our bodies resistant to sickness. The absence of such is literally going to leave a person open to it.

Indeed it is much more important to maintain a healthy gut microbiome than it is to avoid microbes altogether.  Things like fresh fruits and vegetables eaten raw will tend to have some microbes on them even after washing.
