Testing of soylent - elte - Jan 23, 2016 http://robrhinehart.com/?p=298 . Quote: I hypothesized that the body doesn’t need food itself, merely the chemicals and elements it contains. So, I resolved to embark on an experiment. What if I consumed only the raw ingredients the body uses for energy? Would I be healthier or do we need all the other stuff that’s in traditional food? If it does work, what would it feel like to have a perfectly balanced diet? I just want to be in good health and spend as little time and money on food as possible. RE: Testing of soylent - C C - Jan 23, 2016 Quote:With Soylent you can be in peak mental and physical condition for less than $2/day. Soylent does not spoil for months, does not require refrigeration, is easy to transport... Sounds like Rob Rhinehart has a substitute for that six months worth of freeze-dried food that Ted Koppel wants Americans to stock up on to survive the cyber-attack on the US power grid. RE: Testing of soylent - Magical Realist - Jan 24, 2016 Soylent GREEN? O...M...G!!!! RE: Testing of soylent - elte - Jan 25, 2016 It's PEOPLE! Actually, I would be reluctant to use soylent because I try to eat foods that have the special nutrients like sulpher compounds, carotenes, and others. The best way to be sure to get them is to eat natural foods. I seem to recall recently reading that a sulphoraphane in broccoli or leafy greens helps to turn off cancer genes. RE: Testing of soylent - elte - Jan 27, 2016 http://medicalxpress.com/news/2016-01-calorie-broken.html Quote:David Wishart... His food metabolome database is a more recent effort: it contains about 30,000 chemicals derived directly from food. Wishart estimates that both databases may end up listing more than a million compounds. "Humans eat an incredible variety of foods," he says. "Then those are all transformed by our body. And they're turned into all kinds of other compounds." We have no idea what they all are, he adds – or what they do. RE: Testing of soylent - stryder - Jan 27, 2016 I'd suggest that prolonged use of a formula over food would probably cause problems with the digestive system. While indeed a formula of nutrients can be enough to create a meal, there are some things that we eat that contain microbes which keeps our bodies resistant to sickness. The absence of such is literally going to leave a person open to it. RE: Testing of soylent - elte - Jan 28, 2016 Indeed it is much more important to maintain a healthy gut microbiome than it is to avoid microbes altogether. Things like fresh fruits and vegetables eaten raw will tend to have some microbes on them even after washing. |
