Kimmel suspended for saying nothing offensive at all

This is the sort of corporate spinelessness we are seeing right now. Nothing he said was offensive at all. He wasn't even commenting on Charlie's death. He was commenting on how MAGA was capitalizing on it to score political points. They just wanted an excuse to exert their newfound MAGA power. Free speech is a thing of the past.

NEW YORK (AP) — "ABC has suspended Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show indefinitely after comments that he made about Charlie Kirk’s killing led a group of ABC-affiliated stations to say it would not air the show

Kimmel, the veteran late-night comic, made several comments about the reaction to Kirk’s assassination on his show Monday and Tuesday nights. He said that “many in MAGA land are working very hard to capitalize on the murder of Charlie Kirk.”

ABC, which has aired Kimmel’s late-night show since 2003, moved swiftly after Nexstar Communications Group said it would pull the show starting Wednesday. Kimmel’s comments about Kirk’s death “are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse,” said Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar’s broadcasting division. Nexstar operates 23 ABC affiliates.

There was no immediate comment from Kimmel.

President Donald Trump celebrated ABC’s move on the social media site Truth Social, writing: “Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done.”

He also targeted two other late-night hosts, Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers, and said they should be canceled too, calling them “two total losers.”

No, Kimmel tried to blame it on the right:
“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

It's not only partisan misinformation, it's also basically victim-blaming for political violence.

May have ironically had more to do with this revived clip circulating around of his monologue about -- and the day after -- Luigi Mangione’s murder of United Health CEO Brian Thompson. Misplaced horror or something spilling over. Audience was as much doing the "Rolling Stone cover of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev" repeat, via the laughter (it wasn't shocked...)

Jimmy Kimmel’s audience shocked at how sick he actually is? ... https://youtu.be/cursEZp9ghA

It takes a very obsessive analyzer of past Kimmel monologues to come up with something like that. As if to shore up the rather flimsy case for Kimmel's suspension. The reaction of this Nexstar CEO is otoh very clear that it was Kimmel saying offensive things about CK's death that was the issue. Yet clearly from what he actually said it is not.

Jimmy Fallon is probably safe. Gutfield appeared on The Tonight Show and boosted the ratings for that episode. And Gutfield later clarified that he had not invited Fallon on his show (in return) because: "Our show is a little different because if you come on, you're on for the whole hour." (Also lacks the massive budgets of the other talk shows -- if guest payment is required.)

"[...] During Gutfeld's appearance on the Tonight Show last month was a friendly affair, with the two hosts embracing and reminiscing about their first meeting about 15 years earlier."

Yep...talking about the politicization of his death which is an obvious fact. Nothing offensive or insensitive about it at all.

Again, Kimmel, himself, blamed in on the right.
But of course you don't see anyting wrong with that.
You're a piece of shit too.

"After a decision from Nexstar Media Group to remove Kimmel's show from its networks for the immediate future and a seeming threat from FCC chair Brendan Carr to pull ABC's broadcast license for Kimmel's comments, ABC decided to pull Kimmel's program from the air indefinitely on Wednesday evening." ... A vague threat to pull ABC's license would have been sufficient. Add to that Kimmel's contract being up in May of next year, and rumblings from Kimmel himself that maybe he wants to depart late night television. Plus, all these shows are losing money -- the former taboo of letting them continue no matter what was broken with Colbert. So when a window of opportunity arises to shut one down, the corporation is more tempted to take it. And finally, it probably won't be permanent -- maybe a couple of months for the dust to settle adequately (granting Kimmel even wants to return).

Trump had already come out and blamed it all squarely on "the leftists" who he described as sick and evil. Kimmel otoh merely said the right was politicizing it for all it is worth. Which is exactly what happened. Nothing offensive or even wrong about that. In fact the director of the FCC and Nexstar are doing exactly that under the pretext of Kimmel "offending" them. Nobody wants a liberal smart-ass making fun of Trumpers every night, even though you can always just change the channel.

Sinclair Broadcasting btw is a known conservative leaning corporation always spinning the news in favor of Trump. They also run the news program "Full Measure" which always covers the latest updates on the ongoing Mexican invasion.

BALTIMORE – "Sinclair, the nation’s largest ABC affiliate group, objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

As discussed with ABC earlier today, Sinclair decided to indefinitely preempt “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” beginning tonight. Following these discussions, ABC has suspended production of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

“Mr. Kimmel’s remarks were inappropriate and deeply insensitive at a critical moment for our country,” said Vice Chairman Jason Smith. “We believe broadcasters have a responsibility to educate and elevate respectful, constructive dialogue in our communities. We appreciate FCC Chairman Carr’s remarks today and this incident highlights the critical need for the FCC to take immediate regulatory action to address control held over local broadcasters by the big national networks.”

Sinclair’s ABC stations will air a special in remembrance of Charlie Kirk this Friday, during Jimmy Kimmel Live’s timeslot. The special will also air across all Sinclair stations this weekend. In addition, Sinclair is offering the special to all ABC affiliates across the country.

Sinclair will not lift the suspension of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on our stations until formal discussions are held with ABC regarding the network’s commitment to professionalism and accountability.

Sinclair also calls upon Mr. Kimmel to issue a direct apology to the Kirk family. Furthermore, we ask Mr. Kimmel to make a meaningful personal donation to the Kirk Family and Turning Point USA.

Regardless of ABC’s plans for the future of the program, Sinclair intends not to return “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” to our air until we are confident that appropriate steps have been taken to uphold the standards expected of a national broadcast platform."
