Also, next topic, we have a problem with agriculture. [...] If you are buying some food in the store, and you pay €100, only four out of those €100 go to the farmer. The rest is devoured by logistics -- supply chain, the dealer, and the rest of the middlemen.
[...] So because of the farmer often working 80 hours for a really low salary, a lot of farmers are quitting their jobs, closing their farms. So here you can see a statistics. In the 1970s we had 387,000 farmers, but now in 2023 we only had like 140,000 farmers .
So, a lot of young people say they don't want to do the farming job anymore, and they'd rather quit and work something else. And that's a huge problem, of course, because if you're a country you want to have a certain amount of food security. You don't want to import all it from abroad,
A lot of those small farms have closed down, primarily because of the pressure that was caused by joining the European Union. Because of the European Union, we now get a lot of food which is really cheap, and local farmers cannot compete.
[...] Next, Chinese car manufacturers are pushing into the European market. According to a study, the Chinese automakers have a big cost advantage and although there are tariffs on the products, they are very often much cheaper than the cars from Western manufacturers...
