Has Zohran Mamdani inspired the other side of the Atlantic? Great development here. Two ex-Labour members no longer hiding behind an evasive progressive label, acknowledging their core socialist values.

Also clarifies why Corbyn had so much trouble with Antisemitism in the British Labour Party back when he was party leader. As a co-founder with Sultana, he's apparently (perhaps?) come out of the closet as a flame decals, wings spread, ready to glide from the rooftop anti-Zionist, too. Sultana, OTOH, has been vehemently open about that since a teenager, long before the current Gaza circumstances.

Zarah Sultana, Jeremy Corbyn to form new socialist party In UK

INTRO: Zarah Sultana, who has served as the Member of Parliament for Coventry South, has resigned from the United Kingdom’s Labour Party. She has announced that she will co-lead a new Socialist Party along with Jeremy Corbyn, another MP from Islington North.

Sultana, the 31-year-old MP, had been in the Labour Party for almost 14 years. “I will co-lead the founding of a new party, with other Independent MPs, campaigners and activists across the country,” she said in a X post on Thursday, while asking for more people to join their movement.

She has been a staunch critic of Israel since the beginning of the Israel-Palestine conflict. In an earlier post this year, she wrote, ‘I asked the Prime Minister if he still believes Israel is not committing genocide — but he dodged the question.’ In her formal statement of resigning from the party, she has again mentioned ‘the government is an active participant in genocide. And the British people oppose it.’ (MORE - details )

Half-a-million members sign up to new left-wing party founded in Britain
https://www.peoplesworld.org/article/hal...in-britain

INTRO: Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana have reaffirmed their intention to launch a new political party of the socialist left to challenge a system rigged against working people.

The two former Labour MPs issued a joint statement July 24 committing to the new party after three weeks of sometimes tense and challenging discussions since Sultana quit the Labour Party.

They pledged the creation of “a new kind of political party—one that belongs to you” and looked ahead to a founding conference at which members would “decide the party’s direction, the model of leadership, and the policies that are needed to transform society.”

The founding process will also determine the name of the new party. It is understood that the process will be overseen by a working group to be established by the Independent Alliance of MPs, of which Corbyn and Sultana are both members.

Polling shows that the party will pose a serious threat to Labour, with one survey putting the two neck-and-neck at 15%.

In alliance with the Greens, currently in the midst of their own leadership contest, it could overhaul Labour as the main electoral expression of the left in British politics.

Certainly its existence will complicate Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s political strategy, which relies exclusively on trying to appeal to right-wing and even racist voters and has created the vacuum which the Corbyn-Sultana initiative seeks to fill... (MORE - details)

The problem with going back to Marxist basics and becoming a champion of the working class again, is... How are they going to do that when their own revised, "critical theory" political view surely deems a good part of the proles to be the source of today's racism, misogyny, LGBT+ phobia, etc? The latter aren't the higher educated, professional elite that devotedly sniffs the latest GI-tract releases from the literary intellectual establishment.

On the surface, it might look like the "new party" will be pursuing the same thing that Labour is accused of doing in the last sentence above. Which would ultimately mean abandoning or losing the diverse, marginalized population groups that the Left has replaced the traditional proles with. Of course, in reality, the "half-million" that have signed up probably are the latter -- along with whatever remains of classic trade unions and the aforementioned professional elite. Not the working class elements that have been incrementally alienated by the contemporary Left. (Roughly equivalent to MAGA in the US).
