Everyone thinks the Democrats were always pro-labor and so forth. But no. In the late 1920s, it was a very different party than what Roosevelt created in the 1930s.

He's no dope, he recognizes the sentiments among many of his members that they don't feel they have a home in the Democratic Party anymore.
