There are many ways to be subversive. One way is questioning the metanarrative of one's contemporary society and culture by exposing its injustice and lies to the people they contain. Another is just disrupting the status quo. Another is thru satirically presenting the dominant worldview in a mocking and ridiculing manner. If one attribute could be named that holds the most revered and studied novels of our time together, it is that they dare to be subversive in some way.
