Elon and Tesla just held their "We Robot" event in Los Angeles. "The Future will be Streamed Live".
The headine will be the unveil of the world's first car with no steering wheel and no pedals. It's a fully autonomous and unsupervised little two seater that looks angular, a little like the cybertruck or an old Delorean. It will go on sale in late 2026 and should cost less than $30,000. It won't have a charging port, but will charge by induction.
Elon says unsupervised FSD will become legal in California and Texas next year. "Drivers" can sleep if they want, or watch a movie. Your car will become a little rolling lounge. This will revolutionize drunk driving! Elon says FSD is already about 10x safer than human drivers in accidents/mile. And they are constantly rolling out improved versions from the Cortex in Texas.
If a little two-seater is too small to seat your party, Elon also unveiled a fully autonomous no-steering wheel minibus that holds about 20 people. This one looks like something out of a sci-fi movie, totally lacking a windshield in front. There's a big door in the middle of the side and seats at both ends face the middle.
For those who really enjoy driving, you aren't forgotten. Tesla is going to be coming out with a new high performance roadster model as well. It wasn't featured tonight, though.
Elon asks what percentage of the time your current car is actually being driven. It's parked most of the time, right? So he envisions fleets of "cybercabs" running almost constantly, hailed by an app on your phone. Kind of a robot Uber.
And the presentation ended with a horde of Optimus Teslabots mingling with the crowd and serving drinks at a bar.

Elon teases it...
"I think the roadster demo will be mind blowing."
I believe that the car will include spaceship style cold-gas thrusters to improve acceleration and cornering. Unclear how street legal that will be. But it should outperform any other car on the road, including those on the drag strip.
Video of one of the new roadsters going 0-60mph in 1 second. Confirmed that the car has a SpaceX style cold gas thruster. (Passengers in this thing will feel several G's!)
