Lunar Surface Innovation Consortium 10-Year Lunar Architecture Proposals

LSIC just held a meeting called LunA-10, to receive industry proposals for longer-term lunar infrastructure to keep the lunar momentum going after returning humans to the Moon after more than 50 years. Beyond that media stunt, NASA is determined that we will be "back on the Moon to stay" this time. (Still lots of questions about how that will work, hence LSIC.)

Many companies submitted proposals, and here's a 114 page briefing book containing the slides and graphics from their presentations. There's lots of fascinating stuff here.

The presentations start with Blue, and wind up with SpaceX. Dozens of other companies in between.

SpaceX says it will only require landing three HLS Starships to have at least the beginnings of a Moon base.

1. A utility ship 150 ft high, providing a communications tower (the first lunar cell-phone tower), computer and data (can be tied into Starlink network), electrical power for the base, plus commodity storage in the ship's tanks. (Astronauts need oxygen? There's a huge LOX tank right there full of LOX that won't be needed if the ship doesn't return to Earth.)

2. A cargo ship (they call it the "rolling stock" ship) with a large cargo bay full of rovers, construction equipment, in-situ resource utilization equipment and whatever else they need.

3. A crew habitation ship. If the cargo bay is devoted to pressurized crew-quarters, it could house dozens of astronauts in comparative comfort. (Their own cabins, social/dining spaces etc.)
