Technically, pinto and occasionally lima beans are all I sample of the four. But hubby has to have the white. (Somehow that supposed savory "nutty flavor" has forever failed to register with me.) I got sick once by hurriedly heating up frozen lima beans in a microwave oven instead of boiling them. Apparently the cyanide-related compound in them doesn't get destroyed via that method.

Can't say I've ever had any of 'em. Though I am a bit of a bean fan..
Quote:.. in the United Kingdom — which accounts for the great majority of all canned baked bean consumption (via Britain Explained) — the tinned baked beans sold as Heinz Beanz are a very different bean, indeed. British-style baked beans are meatless and come in a thin, tomato-based sauce that's not smoky or sweet like U.S. versions, according to Culinary Ginger.https://www.tastingtable.com/928300/hein...ifference/ The superior UK person (or wife thereof) will often add grated cheese to the beans before putting them on toast. Mmm.. delicious. Edit .. every 5 or 10 years or so we get an exciting new bean variation .. back in the day I had a pash for spicy (Mexican?) beans* .. I'm currently riding the wavefront of beans with added vegan sausages. * probably discontinued .. I haven't even tried to get them for years .. that's the nature of pashes.

A majority of bean types are fine as long as they are cooked enough. Cooking properly breaks down the lectins.
In my case I had a bought of problems brought on by undercooked Mangetout, which resulted in an upset gall bladder. The Mangetout was high in lectins due to the time of year and country of origin. In any event it took two days for the pain to stop and it wasn't down to anything other than the food. So I make sure all beans are cooked for longer than necessary when used now just to make sure that doesn't happen with them (Especially Kidney Beans) |
