Andrew Miller appeals jail sentence for abducting and sexually assaulting girl in Scottish Borders
https://news.sky.com/story/andrew-miller...s-13023251

INTRO: A paedophile who abducted a primary school pupil while dressed as a woman before sexually assaulting the girl repeatedly over more than 24 hours has appealed to have his "excessive" sentenced reduced. Andrew Miller, also known as Amy George, launched a legal bid last October to challenge the length of his 20-year jail term.

Former butcher Miller, who identifies as a transgender woman and is said to be in the process of transitioning, lured the young victim into his car after offering to give her a lift home in February last year.

Miller, 54, instead drove the girl to his own house in the Scottish Borders and trapped her in his bedroom. He then subjected his victim to a series of sexual assaults over the course of the next 27 hours. He also made her watch pornography.

Miller was addressed as a male at the High Court in Edinburgh when he was sentenced to two decades behind bars and told he would be supervised for a further eight years upon his release. He was also placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely.

Appeal judges will now consider if the custodial sentence was "excessive" and placed "too much weight" on his transgender identity, with an "insufficient discount" for an early guilty plea. On Friday, the appeal court in Edinburgh heard that Miller had lived as a woman for six years prior to the offence and is now supporting other trans prisoners... (MORE - details)

Anthony Burns: Online predator who blackmailed women into carrying out acts of child abuse jailed for 24 years
https://news.sky.com/story/anthony-burns...s-13050176

INTRO: An online predator who blackmailed dozens of women around the world into performing sexual and degrading acts, including child abuse, has been jailed for 24 years. Anthony Burns, originally from Lowestoft in Suffolk, used multiple online identities when engaging with the women on the internet.

On one occasion he posed as the head of a model agency searching for clients, while on another he pretended to be an officer with the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA). Once the 39-year-old had gained the trust of his victims he would move the conversation over to WhatsApp.

The women were ordered to film themselves carrying out sexual acts in the belief they would be paid £600 but the money was never transferred to them. When he had received enough explicit material, Burns threatened to expose the images to their families and friends unless they sent more increasingly depraved photographs and videos.

Burns had 39 victims - ranging in age from eight to 54 - made up of women he blackmailed and children who were subsequently abused. One of the victims was an eight-year-old girl in the US, who was abused by her mother following sustained coercion by Burns. The FBI helped officers track down his victims in the US.

Most of his other victims lived in England but he also targeted people in the Channel Islands and Australia... (MORE - details)

A while back I was telling you about my BIL and his upcoming trial for events 40+ years ago. An appeal for more victims didn’t yield much so they tried him on the one charge where there was overwhelming evidence. He was convicted and sentenced, put on the registry and now resides in federal prison. At sentencing, his lawyers managed to reduce his sentence by half and since then have had it reduced even more. I’m actually afraid to think he’ll be out this year and that’s the rumour. Either way looks like he'll be a lonely man should this happen. Don’t think I’ll be initiating any contact with him and my wife has also made it perfectly clear she feels same way. Family consensus is he doesn’t deserve to get out early but that seems to be in the cards.

Basically that’s it, be a good prisoner and re-enter society early, like nothing happened. Only thing I can think of is that we have more convicts than our prisons can hold. Funny how more prisons is never an election issue, at least that’s been my experience. I’m in favour of maybe a couple situated in the far north, don’t think cons should ever feel comfortable while in the slammer. Still must be careful we don’t infringe on any rights they possess or be guilty of maltreating bad guys. Rolleyes
