Almost 60% of oil and gas reserves and 90% of coal must remain in the ground to keep global warming below 1.5C, scientists say.
The forecast is based on close analysis of global energy supply and demand.
It is a "bleak" but realistic assessment of "what the science tells us is needed", the researchers say.
And they have "painted a scenario of the future" that leaves much less room for fossil fuels to be extracted than previously estimated.

These fossil fuels were given to us by God to be used. If they were going to cause any problems God wouldn't have given them to us.

These fossil fuels were given to us by God to be used. If they were going to cause any problems God wouldn't have given them to us.

Did God think it over before creating life? Let’s blame billions of years of life for current state of affairs. When machines take over it won’t matter.

Are they looking for exoplanets with an atmosphere similar to what’s being predicted for Earth in next couple centuries? Finding a totally polluted atmosphere as evidence for a past or maybe existing civilization?
