ChatGPT answers physics questions like a confused C student
https://bigthink.com/the-present/chatgpt-physics/

KEY POINTS: ChatGPT has surprised experts by answering their difficult questions remarkably well. When asked about physics, it gave a mixture of true, false, relevant, irrelevant, and contradictory answers — all with authority. The AI’s ability to find and spout related concepts is impressive, but its ability to properly link them is inconsistent... (MORE - details)

String theory is dead
https://iai.tv/articles/string-theory-is..._auid=2020

INTRO: Following Eric Weinstein’s interview on how String Theory culture has stifled innovation in theoretical physics, longstanding critic of String Theory, Peter Woit, takes aim at the theory itself. He argues that String Theory has become a degenerative research project, becoming increasingly complicated and, at the same time, removed from empirical reality. Even the remaining string theorists of the past have given up on the ontology of strings, as well as the original vision of the theory... (MORE - details)

News to me. I can read it after clicking the X on the corner of a box that initially freezes things, without a subscription.

I have found that one can view one maybe two articles before the nag message appears, and in addition to what I copy pasted, one then gets ""you have reached the limit for free viewing....." or similar. Some other sites do it too.
One trick is to swap to a different browser but that only works once. I suppose one could try further tricks like keep using a new VPN fake country of origin (haven't tried it), but it gets irksome.

There is probably a reset period of a month or so before one can get another free peek at the entire article. Which is why some never notice an issue.

My bad. I lost the short query string that was originally attached to the URL. The restored version should allow you through (or at least, I didn't get any overlay stuff when I tried it this time around). Usually it's the very, very long query strings that serve a function like that, with the brief kind of "gibberish" added to the link often just code indicating the site one came from.

Yah, Nautilus is another mag that has or did have a monthly limit, too.

Yah, Nautilus is another one that has or did have a limit, too. But who knows, maybe that was also the result of me not retaining the add-on "gibberish" of the links (usually it's the very, very long query strings that serve a function like that).
Bingo! Yay it works fine now. Please remember to use that short query string 'trick' from now on.
